Hey you guys,

I am trying to add 4.5 ESI risers to my trike and was doing well until I realized my cables are not long enough. I pulled the side panels off and don't see that the cables are tied back etc and see no extra room unless it is up under the upper console some how and don't know how to take it off to check to see if I am missing something and it seems that you have to unsnap the console using a flat head screw driver to wedge around it to remove the tupper ware and I feel like I am going to break it and have found no instructions on how to this and it's become a cursing fit on my end. I am looking to see how to do it or where can i can cable extenders and how to find a solution. ESI only recommends trying to re-route the cables, Dealer said the same thing or order custom cables from Terry Cables. Any input sure would be appreciated, hope to find an easier solution that will get me back on the road.

RISERS

.....:gaah: ...literally thousands have done this successfully...and you can also.....Your Dealer is an" idiot ", liar or BOTH.....No one that I know of has ever had to use cable extenders.....I forget which Vendor has the excellent video on how to get to the cable ties ( Custom Dynamics ? easy risers brand ? ).......also check with " finless " ( Bob ) He has done video's for everything...Have you tried the search function for ---- Risers --- PS, I have done two Spyders and there is plenty of cable once the Cable Ties are cut.......You should look for some video's on how Spyder's in general are taken apart.....they all use the same bolts and connectors etc............................good luck.....Mike

thanks

Indeed! REady to choke everyone lol This is my issue getting under the upper console to get to the cables! I can't find any videos or instructions anywhere.

If by chance you are talking about the speedo and tach when you say upper console, that's not hard to get off. You need a small, flat blade screwdriver. You know where that useless card is that you are supposed to read before starting the spyder? Just on the opposite side of that panel you will notice 2 small square holes. Place the small blade of the screwdriver into one of those holes, and look underneath to make sure the screwdriver is going behind the speedo side or tach side (depending on which side you start with). With enough downward force, the console will pop out a little; now, get your finger tips to hold it, so it doesn't pop back in. Then, do the other side. Good luck.

It was a pain in the rear to get the top half of my console off my '08 GS when I installed my Kewl Metal risers. I poked a screwdriver around the seam/joint until I felt an obstruction then pushed harder, twisted & tried to lift the top half off. I finally got all the plastic clip pieces disconnected to allow me to lift off the upper half. I did damage the seam a bit, unfortunately.

Remove the gauge cluster beforehand as described by Wyliec. At least that bit was/is easy.

Good luck but it is still quite difficult to get your hand in & snip the cable ties without cutting the wires they are holding.

Clutch cable was beyond fine with zip ties or anything. I did it last weekend. I was super frustrated. When you finally get the two zip ties you will feel relieved and a little silly. It is very well worth the frustration in the end!

Hi torquehound,

Re: When you finally get the two zip ties you will feel relieved and a little silly.

I know everyone mentions this. I bought an '08 SE-5 with 4k miles on it. I never did find any zip ties. I just used my calibrated hands/arms to pull the cables as much as I could without going into the 'scary' area of pulling. I was able to get sufficient slack that everything works just fine now.

It may be that someone in the past had removed the zip ties but the maintenance records that I got with the Spyder did not indicate that the instrument panel had ever been removed. But it still may have been.

Just some thoughts,

Jerry Baumchen

I got that off thanks and great directions! It's the whole frame console that is a beast!

WELLLLLLLLLLLLL

....Wow, I did mine a long time ago, and besides removing the gauge cluster. I only removed the center panel over the AIR box, the upper right and left panels..........not the windshield or anything it attaches to.......It helps a lot if you have a long nose pair of snips........Mike

Hi serianna,

Re: It's the whole frame console that is a beast!

What is the frame console?
The directions that I used talked about a 'Y' cover; this took me a week or so to determine what it was. :banghead:

..............I wasn't sure either, and guessed it might be what the windshield is attached to :dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:...............Mike

I did it

I installed 4.5 in Heli Bar risers on top of
the BRP 1 in. riser and have never had trouble, there is plenty
of wires & cable all you must do is remove all the wire ties holding
them in place from the factory, then you can pull the cables and wires
up where you need them. I have a 2008 GS. The Heli bar risers come
with a device to relocate your ignition key ... I like it.
