• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Had the Spyder on a trickle charger over the winter. I could not ride until this month due to hip replacement surgery. I went to start the bike and nothing. The computer will not come on. The charger is showing green. Any ideas as to what is wrong? :banghead:

Take a voltage reading on the battery, if it is below 12.4 it is likely just old age. If the battery tests out at about 12.6 then the problem lies elsewhere, such as a loose battery cable.

basic trouble shooting. Battery connections, battery voltage..If it is the original battery it's time for a new one. A tender can't save a battery that's beyond it's useful life.

Thanks for the info. It is the original battery so I guess indeed a new one. What do they cost? Must I get it from the dealer?

Remove old battery....

...and take it to your local Walmart or auto parts store and match it up to their battery. Just a thought.

Start here..!!

jump start it. If it comes to life your battery tender is not hooked up correctly or battery has gone south. If it is that low a tender will not charge it so a regular charger will be needed. But you should get the battery tested...

If you grab the battery's model number (It's even available in here in about a thousand threads!), you can shop pretty much anyplace that you want for the replacement.

How do I get to battery

The power is so dead the seat lock mechanism will not work. How can I get to the battery? It has the semi automatic. It's in gear. I cannot get it on a trailer.

You can easily raise the seat without power... :D
(push the key in, and turn it clockwise....)
You can also manually shift the bike into neutral; the instructions are in your manual.
The issue will be the parking brake... :dontknow:
Raise the seat, and jump-start the bike.
Te battery is back underneath the left-hand passenger grabrail; you've got a lot of bodywork to remove. Again; this is all clearly covered in the manual.
(I had a 2010, and was able to do it. I know that anybody else can... My mechanical skills are the worst on the Planet.)

You do not need a battery to open the seat. If the key is turning but not unlocking the seat, push down on the right side, front area of the seat where it latches. Usually it gets stuck after not being opened for a while and needs a push to unlatch.

Progress

I have a new battery and I have misplaced my manual. I have the side panel off, but clearly I must take off more to get to this battery. Anyone know where I can download a mNual so I can do this right without breaking anything?

To remove and replace a pre 13 battery:

Remove the left mirror and wind deflector just below it
Remove the black access panel when the frunk is open
Remove the snap off painted oil fill panel
Remove the upper painted side panel
Remove the lower painted side panel

At this point you will see the + cable and the lower part of the battery laying on its side, next:

Remove the black battery access panel under the seat
Disconnect the battery ground at the back of the battery
Disconnect the battery + at the front
Remove the rubber hold down strap
Push up on the bottom of the battery with you left hand as you pull forward and upwards with right. You may have to wiggle a bit but it does slide out.
Slide in the new, reverse the steps and your done.

Don't forget to reset you time, date etc on the computer.
