There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Helmet Temps

I was wondering if a light colored helmet is cooler in the summer heat than a black one. So I did a little (unscientific) experiment. I put the exact same thermometers under a white helmet and a black helmet. Both had vents closed and visors down. I elevated them so as not to get any ground heat. I then faced them away from the sun so the the visors had no effect (no sun light getting in at all). It was sunny out and 75 degrees. The experiment lasted 2 hours. After 2 hours both helmets were 100 degrees inside. The white one was warm to the touch on outside and the black was very hot to the touch but both were the exact same on the inside. So now when I go to buy a new helmet, I'll go with any color or graphic I want but I will still look for the best ventilation. I'm sure I wasn't the only one with this question, so I hope it helps.

The myth has been busted! I think that is a very reasonable test you did. Not very scientific but still good.:clap::clap:

:clap:great idea .. I have a lot of (old) helmets - but for this season we took the givi`s xzero1 - the only helmets which fit in the drunk (all two)
and we can change the front if we just travelling slowly through some italien villages.. (too hot for normal helmets)
for me this is in the moment the logical "spyder-helmet"

Interesting helmet, Chris. It would never pass the required DOT or Snell standards here, although I really believe your ECE standard is a better one overall. Too bad it won't likely make it to the US, the ventilation looks top notch, and it appears to be very versatile, yet compact. Thanks for sharing.

I like the IS-16 Scratch HJC I just got...sun visor and neat pattern on it...works great, is really light, and vents extremely well...

hi scotty (really a bike-professor)
I don`t know the standards you have - i find it dangerous to drive a full-facer in hot areas for longer trips - (greece aso..) - also to drive without a helmet ???!! normally i have a second helmet with me - but my "girl" needs now absolut all the space available on our spyder.. some few (25) years ago - we always was three weeks on bikers-holidays-tour with tent aso .. never had this problem..
if we take our us-trip (next year?) hope they have their new gold-spyder available - there is one here (rotax) but could not test till now..

her last idea was .. is it possible to install 4 givi-bags on the spyder??
hope you understand..
chris
any other luggage ideas ?

Why not just get a convertable flip-over style? That way you can switch from full face to open while on the fly..... no parts to store - just click and flip.

I have always been intrigued by the ROOF Boxer and now Boxer V. I even have co-workers in the UK (it's really a Frech made helmet) who get get me one, but I have no idea how it would fit much less what it would cost.

Chris - have you ever seen one or tried one on?

I'm not Chris but...I've got one... for today... bought it here on the forum and took a chance on size... it's heading to tatt2r tomorrow. We're doing a helmet run instead of a banner run.

The styling is pretty cool. Star Wars stuff. Ventilation appears to be good, also... only tried it on... no riding, though.

The sizing appears to run slightly large... I usually wear either a XL or XXL depending on the manufacturer. This one is an XXL and is way too big for me. tatt2r, however, has a big head :D (so he says) and should fit him fine.

http://www.boxerv8.com/The price on the box says 245 pounds (UK).

I paid $175... tatt2r paid $175, NIB. Only because it didn't fit the prior owner, either.

I have the HJC "flip" helmet and it specifically states not to ride without the helmet in the locked down position. My guess is that it does not meet DOT if not closed & locked.

Interesting experiment. Where were the thermometers placed in relation to the interior of the helmet? Were they placed close to the upper-interior helmet shell (same positioning as your skull) or were they roughly in the center of the helmet.

I just ordered the matte black Givi X01 from Designer Helmets in the UK.

You can have any color you want as long as it's white or black. :roflblack:

It doesn't bother me that it doesn't meet DOT standards. It meets European standards (with the chin bar) which I believe are more stringent than DOT standards anyway.

Comes with both a Winter and Summer version chin bar (Though I doubt I'll be using the Winter version). Cost $316.

I'll let you know how I like it
