Helmet Speakers

Did a search on the site,but was not able to find what I'm looking for. I had a Honda Goldwing for many years and had speakers in my helmet that would play anything that came over the radio/sound system (had to plug in as there was no Bluetooth). Now I'm on a 2014 RT-S SE6 and would like to play anything that plays through the external speakers, through helmet speakers. I gather that I must use Bluetooth and think? that I need the BRP dongle. I understand that the BRP dongle and the Sena 10 are one and the same. Is this all I need, or must I also get the Sena 20 as well and must my music source have Bluetooth capabilities or will anything fed to the sound system by wire, automatically then play through the dongle/Sena? I ride solo and don't need to talk to other bikers, so don't need the intercom capabilities.

Easiest way is to use the Sena SM10 Bluetooth dongle. I wouldn't by the one BRP sells however, that is intended to go in to the frunk. Motorcycle Dave sells one directly from Sena for much less money with a cable that attaches to the Spyder entertainment system and is designed to mount in the rear trunk - a much more convenient location. The cable was designed by "Finless", one of our forum members.

Of course you will also need some sort of Bluetooth headset or ear buds. Almost any one should do, if you are not looking for intercom capability and only want to hear the music. However, I use the new Sena 10S, as it has the same improved sound and control capability as the 20S, but I don't need the longer range or advanced capability of the 20S. It also allows me to use my phone hands free, listen to music from my phone, and hear my Garmin GPS while riding. After you get everything working together, you can turn off the external speakers using the left side multi-function control.

Many thanks for the info. Still slightly confused. Is the SM10 all I need, other than helmet speakers? If I have my Sirius plugged into the 1/8 headphone jack in the trunk, will it then play through the SM10, or is there an external plug on the SM10 that I would plug the Sirius into?

The cable that you get from Motorcycle Dave will go from your onboard entertainment system (located under the small black panel beneath the right side passenger hand grip) to the SM10. You would plug that cable into the "Audio In" jack on the SM10. (Leave the Sirius radio hooked up the way you have it now.) That will give you everything that you now hear through your Spyder onboard entertainment system, which is what you mentioned that you wanted to do in your original post above. This is what i would recommend if you simply want to hear everything in your helmet that you now hear in the Spyder speakers.

Other options: Also you could use an Apple iPod or phone with the other connector in the trunk which would give you full control of either of those units via the control module on the left driver hand grip. The SM10 also has an "AUX" Audio input that you could use with a patch cord from the "headset out" jack on any audio device. See the SM10 link in my message above for more info. Finally, you could plug any device directly into the SM10, which would then bypass the Spyder entertainment system.

If you use a Sena headset, like the 10S, you can also pair any device directly with that, which would give you some control via the headset controls. The Sena headsets also have an AUX input for a wired device that you might have in your pocket. Lots of options.
