Helmet Speakers

Right now I'm running ear buds and I'm having no issues when I'm wearing a Baclavia. The problem is, when I don't wear a Baclavia the ear buds fall out of my ears.

The Question is, does anyone have these or something similar ??? I only need them to listen to a MP3 player. The prices for these are all over the board from 5 dollars up to over a hundred. I'm trying to find out how the sound is from a cheaper pair. Link below.

Hey Dude!

I wear ear buds too and I also wear a belaclava. But I always wear one to protect my lid, so they never fall out! But I understand your issue. I have an O'Neil Tirade Bluetooth helmet and the speakers are not the best. They really sucked until I figured out that I just needed to get them a little closer to my ear! I took a piece of foam and sculpted it such that it moved the speaker just a tad and now it aint too bad at all! Then I got a new phone and the music player in that unit is awsome so that helped a ton too. But the lesson here with the speakers is that position of them relative to your ear is very important. Seems obvious but it's amazing the difference it makes. But having the in-helmets is way better than dealing with the ear buds all the time. That gets old after a while.

There was one guy who replaced his in-helmet speakers with some Skull Candy units and had a very favorable result. Can't remeber who that was at the moment...

I believe it was "wicked little buds" that Lamont recommended.

There are a number of brands of helmet speakers. A Google search will turn up several. I much prefer them to earbuds. I can't recommend a specific brand, because mine are the ones for my comm system (Starcom1), but you can probably find an online review if you search.

Hidden Earbuds - Skullcandy Asyms

Lamont did, indeed, recommend "Wicked Little Buds" and I bought a pair; I still have them and use them in my helmet once in a while. I think he also posted about the Skullcandy Asyms. I bought a pair of those as well -- http://www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-ASYM-Ear-S2ASCZ-003-Black/dp/B003CVS56K --
and love them! They are angled differently than standard buds so that you can route the wire UP and over the top of the ear. That way they are pretty hard to unlodge when the helmet slides down over the ears.

I also position them more like standard buds -- with the wire coming out of the bottom of my ear -- and they work fine that way as well. Both offer good sound. Lamont especially liked the woven-thread shield on the "Wicked Little Buds" wire (less breakage).

Don't shave your ear hair and let the ear wax build up, they'll stay in.

Cheaper than silicone or super glue.

A lot of the buds come with different size earpieces for a more "custom" fit, which helps the falling out action from occuring.

I can't vouch for any particular brand of helmet speakers other than the ones I own, the ones that came with my Sena SMH10 headset. They allow me to wear earplugs AND still hear tunes.

I'll never go back to earbuds and wires...

I've found that, if your helmet and head shape allow, you can get fantastic sound by putting speakers close to your ears. The trick is finding the perfect combination. The shoei neotec and my head combined with the uclear speakers are wonderful. But in the multitec I had issues with getting them in the right place.

I guess my point is, earbuds are great so long as they stay in your ear. Helmet speakers are great forever once you get them in the right spot.

It might take a dozen helmets and various foam blocks to get that perfect location for you, but once you have it, you never have to worry about earbuds snagging and tugging again.
