• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Helmet pro's and con's

Almost all legal helmets are too heavy. I often wear my light weight skydiving helmet. Not legal but pretty safe. I hate any law that forces us to protect ourselves. It's my head...I can smash it if I want to. I have over 1500 skydives and the vast majority were with a helmet on...but it was my choice...and sometimes I just didn't want a helmet. We should be able to choose!!

Nobody ever finds God on Prom Night... I hope that you never find out have to find out how much all of that comfort might cost you... nojoke

Do you think about all the others that may have to take care of you after a traumatic brain injury, that may have been averted by wearing a helmet? I know there are some that will say that's what insurance is for; and what about those without insurance, or low coverage.

In any case, good luck to you on those dives without a helmet.

My first helmet was the old army Kevlar helmet I had a old busted up virago was my only mode of transportation at the time. A cop pulled me over said he would let me off with a warning, said he was giving me points for style lol . Later that day when home from work there was a old motocross style helmet at my door I could take the visor and chin part off looked like a 3/4 without the visor props for living in a small town i guess . Many years later and wiser I have a full face nothing fancy cept the shade that I can raise or lower but it's safe and I kinda like that ;)

That Was Then, This is Now

LS2 Helmets is very proud to offer the world’s first Snell 2010 approved modular helmet, the FF394 Epic. Super smooth, one button action makes it easy to open and the full-metal mechanism keeps it secure. Adjustable flow-through ventilation gives you control over the elements. Optically correct face shield with LS2’s Radial Tool-less Quick Release keeps your view clear and makes changing shields quick and easy.

Alas Snell has moved on from the 2010 standards to the new 2015 Standards and the LS2 FF394 no longer meets the Snell Certification Standards!

I hate this argument. OK, let's make the speed limit 5 mph, ground all airplanes, no more crossing oceans, no more
flights into space, or any other activity that can result in injury. Sure I wore a full harness seat belt, helmet and fire suit when I raced cars. I have a reserve parachute. These things were required. I crashed cars and had parachute malfunctions. These things are expected in these sports. I'm sure glad I had those backups. But to make me a law breaker when I don't fasten my seat belt or put my helmet on is pure nonsense.

But you CAN choose...
You've chosen to wear a helmet that even you acknowledge, probably isn't up to the job
Please correct me if I'm wrong; a skydiving helmet won't protect you at all, if the jump comes to a VERY sudden halt... Isn't it more to protect you from stuff whipping around your head, due to the wind rushing past you?

You can also choose to live in a purely helmet optional State also!

I never said it was not up to the job! It's just not legal. If the heavy helmet saves your brain but breaks or severs your head from your neck... You are just as dead. I know the risks and I'm WILLING to take the chance. I've lived a life of risk taking and I'm amazed that I made it to 70...but here I am. I lived in a "no helmet required" state for 30 years. I almost always worn one...But my choice. Now I'm in one that requires them.

If you want to take risks... get married again! :roflblack: :joke:

So I was wondering if there are any advantages or disadvantages to a full face helmet over a full face v open face helmet or is it more a matter of personal preference. I think a full face would offer more protection but it seems it may be more restrictive. I've never worn a full face helmet so I'm pretty much a novice.

What I said on the first page: "This will amount to a very lively discussion so hang on for the ride." :roflblack:

Was I right? :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

I just took a trike class last weekend. The information they passed out at the class said that 44% of all helmet impact locations were in the lower face area. The study was done by a German company. Based on that info "YES" a full face provides more protection.

Relax......nobody really cares whether you wear a helmet or not. People, for the most part, are commenting on why they wear a helmet, and the CHOICES they have made for themselves. You are choosing to wear a helmet that is not legal in the state you live in ( your words) and so you choose to accept the ticket if it is ever issued, also fine. Congrats on 70! I guess what I look at is I can choose what I wear, and I can choose how I drive, but as many have leaned on this site, we can't choose whether someone else is going to "rear-end" us or not. So, my helmet weighs in around 3 lbs, and I fell confident that the cause of my death won't be severe brain trauma when I am hit from behind at a stop light. Oh, and I would never Sky Dive in my motorcycle helmet!:roflblack::roflblack:

 I wouldn't even sky dive with a gun to my head...

The only way that I'm leaving a perfectly flight-capable aircraft: my lifeless corpse will need to be thrown from that sucker! nojoke

I'm 64. When I was 29 in 1980 a Simpson full faced helmet LITERALLY saved my life when I was hit by a drunk driver. I paid $175 for that helmet in 1979 and people laughed at me for spending that much money on a helmet. But that helmet kept me alive in an otherwise non-survivable incident. Since then I've continued to wear GOOD full faced helmets when I ride. Why? I MUCH prefer the odds in my favor.

Now, here's something I don't understand. If you're against wearing a helmet, fine, that's up to you. But why wear a helmet you KNOW is no good for motorcycle riding, either because it's illegal or won't protect you? Why not either don't wear a helmet at all, as you want everyone to know is your right, or, if you MUST wear one, why not at least wear a cheap DOT approved helmet? What, exactly, is the point of wearing something you know won't do you any good at all?

I don't get it.
