• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Helmet Problems

I'm clean shaven and wear a "doo rag". Really helps the lid slide on. Just make sure it goes over your ears. If the helmet is squeezing your ears( but fits correctly otherwise ) you could surgically remove a bit of the soft foam in the ear pocket.

Good luck,

Kaos

I've got thick hair and I can't put on a helmet without a skull cap underneath. I wear Heat Out or Schampas.

I wrote to many manufacturers. Nolan actually called me. The rep said that I have a round oval head. Most helmets made today are long oval. That is why it hurts me on the sides. He suggested trying Arai. I did and found that all of the round oval helmets Arai makes have been discontinued.

Am I the only person who has problems getting a helmet to fit and putting it on and off?

Look at the measurements I made at http://www.wb2lua.com/marticles.htm

As you can see the CL-33 shell is much wider at the jaw line than the IS33 II. The IS33 II hurts my ears putting it on and off. The newer materials used in helmets today make it more difficult to spread the jaw. My ears hurt every time I put the IS33 II on or off. No problem with the CL-33. The downside of the CL-33 is that it doesn't have a drop down sun visor and the interior is not removable. I live on Long Island and ride east and west with the sun almost always facing me.

I've been wearing helmets for 45 years. I never had this problem before.

No, I have had a tough time. Almost identical to your experience ( and I have one ear bigger and wider than the other). I have tried the modular bigger size that drops down, Jaw is fine, head too loose. I also put in additional padding... not using 1/2 half helmet and planning pn trying 3/4 and modular. Misery does love company:-)

I feel you pain doc:thumbup: After my TBI injury I was bit concerned if my skull would fit a normal helmet ever again :yikes:(See my album) But thank the LORD :bowdown:I've recovered & got a spyder too:ohyea::clap::yes: . Modular HJC found at HD is the comfort winner for me, built in shade visor & vents. Part # 98211-10VM/002L. (X-Large) I can slide it on wearing glasses or not. I'll look for the model number but surely there is a shop that has adequate displays to test with. If not visit the next closest helmet law state:thumbup: Unless you can hold till spyderfest & visit pitbulls

You should give the Arai RX-Q a try. It is Arai's current round head helmet.

I'm beginning to think this thread is really about evolution. Is Dr. John's round head shape going the way of the dinosaur? :roflblack: Are the next generations all oval heads? Dr. John, I think you might need to just tape your ears down then pull on a helmet. Good luck!

I was given the wrong information. My head is normal oval. It is my jaws that are wider than normal. The Bell Mag 9, medium with 25 mm cfeekpads worked fine for me.

My wife has large ears and they fold when she removes her helmet. She got so frustrated at one point during our trip last year, she ripped the helmet off and broke the cartilage in her left ear. No joke, it sounded like a pencil snapping. I need to find something for her soon before she refuses to ride with me again.

I suggest the CL-33 helmet. It is the widest.
