To answer the question has anyone had a helmet stolen? The answer is yes. From all the times that I just left my helmet on the seat thinking that no one would ever touch or take the helmet. It only takes one time to change your habit. Every year my buddy and I take a week trip and our first stop is at Flow’s Long Neck Clam restaurant in Newport, RI. For years we parked our bikes in the back parking lot, enjoyed a large serving on Long Necks and then head to the hotel for the night. Two years ago we did the same thing except this year my wife came along. We pulled in the parking lot, got off the bikes and proceeded to put or helmets on the seat, and my wife said aren’t going to lock up your helmets? We said no need, we have been to Flow’s for 5 years and besides, RI is a no helmet state, who would want a helmet. Well needless to say upon returning to our bikes, guess what, my helmet was gone. Not hers, Not my buddy’s just mine. Luckily I was able to find shop in Connecticut open the next day on Sunday to buy a new helmet with an intercom so the rest of the week was not in total runin.
Well to this day I’m still living with this story and will never leave my helmet unlocked. (especially when I’m with my wife). My handcuffs come in handy to lock the helmets and often think I can also use them if I ever find the person that took my 450.00 helmet /w J&M headset.
