Hello Spyderlovers and greetings from Sweden!

I've been lurking around the site for a few weeks while making up my mind wether to take the plunge on a Spyder or not. After the local dealer kindly let me have a demo-Spyder over the weekend I popped in first thing today and ordered a RS-S in Alloy Orange / Matt black and I'm expecting delivery later this week

I'll be trading in my snowmobile (a 2010 Renegade 1200 X-model, for those in the know). I've never had any bikes, except for a 50cc dirt bike when I was a kid, and a Suzuki K50 as a teenager, but I discovered my snowmobile skills translated over to the Spyder very well, and driving it feels perfectly natural once I relaxed my grip a little.

The bar height was fine while going straight down the road (I'm 6'4"), but sharp left turns made me have to stretch way too far to keep hold of the throttle, so I've decided a riser is the first mod I'm going to do, and second will be a back rest for the wife (she much prefered the Spyder to riding on my snowmobile by the way). The third might be a sway bar to decrease body roll.

I have a few questions about these mods I hope somone is kind enough to answer:

* Does BRP make a 2" riser, or is the 1" all? My dealer was unsure.

* The BRP back rest was hideously expensive with the bottom plate needed, close to $1000. Can anyone recommend a 3rd party back rest that is completly (and easily) removable?

By the way, wonder if BRP has any plans of putting the 1200 Rotax snowmobile engine in the Spyder (inline 3-cyl, 140hp) .. that would be a marriage made in heaven and easily turboed to 180-300hp as well ... weeeee

I would put a few more miles on before doing your mods. When you're sure of what you want to change then I would take a look at our vendors list and see what works for you.

:welcome::congrats: BRP Only makes a one inch riser block, But there are a few after market 3 and 4 inch risers.
As far as a more powerful engine i would think they would wait till sales slacken off,
Then put out a performance Spyder to attract a new breed of buyers.

Lots of us would like to see a higher performance engine option for the Spyder such as you suggest, however None of us are optimistic that it will happen anytime soon.. Usually the Spyder Lovers vendors beat out BRP in both price and extent of options so would likely be your best bet for your mods (just my opinion - not to start a war with BRP loyalists) :welcome:

I'm also 6'4", and had a combination of 4" risers for comfort. Utopia makes a good driver backrest, but I opted for a Corbin set up, and the BRP Sport rack & back rest, for looks & flexibility - it was the only system my wife liked.

My favorite windshield, of the 6 I tried, was the Madstad 24" adjustable. Good luck with your new toy.

Thank you for your tips Dragonrider. Hmm, 4" might be a bit too much for me, seems like it would make you sit almost bolt upright, or am I wrong?

Would you happen to know if the BRP backrest is easily removed when not used?

Thanks again for answering my questions, the 3rd party Spyder accessory market is non-existing in Sweden, so everything has to be ordered from the States.

BRP backrest is very easily removed when not in use. It should take less than 30 seconds. You can pick up a BRP sport rack and backrest for about $500.00 US dollars on ebay. I'm Not sure about Swedens prices. Good luck and :welcome:.

:welcome: Good advice to ride a few miles to see what you like and don't like about your bike--then go for the mods. Most riders have opted for 3 or 4 inch aftermarket risers. The BRP ones do not do much. The aftermarket, higher, risers will give you a more upright seating position.

It's $1100 here. The Spyder itself is close to $30.000 here, so I guess it makes sense that the accessories are twice as expensive as well :shocked:

I'll have a look and see if I can find a vendor on e-bay that seems reputable and does international delivieries.

For a backrest, I went with a Corbin. It is really a very nice system that can be used for the rider or passanger. I also added a glovebox, which is a very nice box that attaches to the backrest for cell phones, glasses, walet , keys and gloves. I am very happy with my set up.:congrats:

You could ask some special price when ordering Spyder. I got very decent prices for accessories when quoting price for Spyder. And the dealer will also install all the stuff, which is great. I have thought that I will get 1" riser block, 23" BRP windshield, and sport rack with backrest. Maybe the prices will be lower somewhere but shipping will be expensive I am 6.6". And 23" WS because I would love to have some sport stylish, maybe 19" or something would be enough, but.. maybe saw the windshield. The BRP winshield would be great because it will block some wind for hands.
And hot grips I will install myself.

Not yet ordered because of my eye problems.

I would love to have some SFB Racing floorboards, but shipping is $150 .. so it will be like $550 for floorboards, and I think that is too much. Maybe I buy some motorcycle floorboards and try to figure out how to install them.

Thank you all for your warm welcome Hopefully I'll be able to contribute to the community once I get some experience with it, as well as some miles under my belt. Or "warm in the saddle", as we say over here.

@mvengineer - The Corbin seats looks awesome indeed, I might just go that way myself if the shipping costs doesn't kill me - thanks for the tip.

@kokki - Howdy neighbour! Yes indeed, but there's less wiggle room price-wise since I'm trading in my snowmobile, so the discount on accessories wasn't all that great. Dealer will install the 1" riser block for me for free (I figured I'd go ahead with that, since many 3rd party risers are compatible with it) but that's about it. How much is the Spyder in Finland?

Spyder is little under 20k€. And for that price also some accessories.

But shipping from US is something awfull. Should know somebody who is trading from there to here something.
