• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hello - first spyder , first post

Picked up a new 2012 orange / black RSS about 3 weeks ago .

I have some leg issues and felt it possibly could be bad for my motorcycle and for me if I went another season riding 2 wheels . Had lots of money into it and if I dropped it I could never match the custom paintwork. So I desided to let someone else enjoy it and got me a spyder.

Test drove the RTS last fall and knew what I was getting myself into.

The spyder is definately not a motorcycle (2 wheeler) . It's like learning to ride all over again - just feels so awkward. But getting used to it.

I was going to get the RTS audio convenience package , just for the sole purpose of bringing my 8 year old son along. But after lots of thought and soul searching , I knew he wouldn't ride with me often and I wasn't ready for the full dresser yet. So I opted for the backrest set up for when we go for a father and son cruise .

I mainly use a bike for back and forth to work riding . It's not that often I can find free time just to cruise around . And I can't stand just riding around with nowheres to go , I have to have a point be to go to . I guess it's my bad anxiety that makes me that way . I am the same way in a car .

I am 41 and broke my lower leg December 2010 and it has never been the same since. I have bad arthritis in both knees that makes it painful to walk sometimes , especially after sitting for some time. 2 cases of lymes disease does not help me either.

So - now I have a spyder and am very happy with my decision . I would of never guessed how much attention this machine would get . I have only seen one in my area in the last year , so not many around for people to see. What a head turner , everyone looking as if never saw a spyder before.

My problem is - what the hell are people thinking ? People at my work just jump on and wiggle their butts and twist the throttle as if it was their bike - I had people not even ask to sit on it ! Other guys would come in and tell me there are guys sitting on your bike . It took me going outside and screaming at 2 guys , word got around after that , so I think they are afraid to look at it now - they come to me and ask for permission to just go look at it . Oh yea - sorry - I work for a car dealership .

Ive been looking at all the forums and reading up on the spyder .. There is lots for me to learn for sure. So don't beat up the new guy for asking questions - search features are nice but I don't like answers from 2-3 years ago .

I think there is only 3 can am dealers in NJ - and mine is 25 minutes away , but the people there are good guys - just hate there prices. I make sure not to pay full price on anything there, since I've bought 5 machines from them .

Wish everyone well
Dave

First suggestion is to get a "don't touch my Spyder" sticker from Lamont. It goes on the pull out card and you can pull it out when bike is parked.

Forgot to say congratulations, enjoy the ride, it just takes a while to make the transition from 2 to the Spyder but you will love it. This forum is great and people will help you.

thank you

i am very much a sociable person -- just dont sit on my bike without asking me - LOL !!

i did have a guy roll down his window and asking questions -- i just kept yelling that i have headphones on and i can't hear you -- LOL -- if i wasnt going home from work and in a hurry i would of pulled over and talked to the guy.

and i have stood there for 20 minutes talking and looking when i was trying to leave . its all good -- i do like the attention -- its like having a hot girlfriend with you -- everyone just stairs. but get your fingers broke if you touch her -- LOL

First .... W E L C O M E to this forum. This is a super place to come for answers, meeting new spyder lovers, and get to know your machine in a whole different light.

Glad to hear that your love for riding "cage free" is strong enough you're willing to come over to the Spyder World. I believe the more you ride it, the more you'll love it.

The Spyder, especially the RS, has a truly different look. Since this product is still relatively new (less than 5 years) on the market, it will certainly be a head-turner. People are intrigued and want to know more.

Many individuals out there want to ride a motorcycle, but either are too afraid because of the reputation of being very "dangerous" or they know someone who was injured or even killed from them. When they see this bike, they see POSSIBILITIES. Plus there are bikers out there who can no longer ride the traditional 2-wheeler for whatever reasons (health issues, strength, age, etc.) and when they see this bike, they see OPPORTUNITIES.

You said yourself you never guessed SO MANY PEOPLE would shown so much attention to the spyder. I guess the same can be said of those smart cars, too. People are very, very curious.

However, I do agree they should be more respectful of your ownership. I suggest that you might want to, especially at your workplace, cover it during work hours.

Congrats on your new ride!!!
