Helibars...

Because of my small stature the handlebars on the Spyder (as well as most motorcycles) ergonomically do not fit me. This causes much stress on tendons, ligaments, and muscles in my upper expremities. So after learning about helibars from BJT today, I gave Heli Modified, Inc. a call and talked to their people about the new helibars (adjustable handlebars) currently being developed for the Can Am Spyder. They anticipate being able to provide specific information, which includes pricing, around September 20th. Depending on how many Spyder owners are interested in this new adjustable handlebar will determine how fast they put it into production. So anyone interested should either call Heli Modified, Inc. at (800) 859-4642 or e-mail them at [email protected] and put your name on their wait list. Having your name on their wait list will allow you to be among the first to receive their updates. If you go to their website www.helibars.com , they also have a very informative video on the helibars. Oh to be able to ride in comfort...this is my dream!

Good news! You don't have to wait for Heli to have a kit, there are already two kits that you can buy now, one from NoMagic and one from Kewlmetal so why wait?:dontknow:

She tried dlltang's NMN risers and even though the rise and pullback work well for her, she needs the handgrip portion of the bars to rotate inwards, toward the center of the bike. She had asked before about bending those top bars on the NMN risers.

they offered me a deal if I let them take bike they would give me first set I would rather give up my left you know what than my Spyder

Spoke to her today we may be able to help her out. I have to look at the redeisgn and see if it can be done for her.

That would be great if you could Evan. I told Joan what a great guy you were and you are living up to it. Keep up the great customer service. Keep us posted with your solutions, there may be others that have a similar need.

I could fab something for her using MM risers and a steel bar on top. I would need to know how much of a offset/pullback she was looking for.

Thanks Evan and Lamont. I'm guessing the offset/pullback would need to be no more than 1" on each handgrip. How would I go about actually measuring this distance/degree? Joan

Just FYI, the Kewlmetal bars already do this. That's why they measure 5 inches and 7 inches to the TIP.

Just wanted to clarify what peoples options are. Of course, if you prefer the stock center piece, my bars will not work.

And I am sure MM and Lamont will take good care of you!

Sorry to disagree, Lamonster. But riders should wait. The news should come out very soon. I can't give details right now, but I'll ask Harry Eddy exactly what details can be released.

So you tell me what could be so different about the Helibars compared to No Magic or Kewlmetal? You can only have so much pullback with the stock cables as they are and you can do that with either setup that you could have on your bike in the next couple of days. So why wait? Are they going to be half the price? I don't think so after looking at their website.

I think it's great that there's another player in the Spyder accessories market. What set's No Magic and Kewlmetal apart is these guys don't have to borrow a Spyder to do the R&D on their setups, they own and ride Spyders and therefore have much more firsthand experience with the product and have made adjustments based on putting miles on their Spyders, not just hours in their shop.

I had a real bad shoulder pain at 200-300 miles on my Spyder before putting on the No Magic risers. I just did a 7000 mile trip with one day that was 1200 miles and I had no shoulder pain at all because of the risers. Can Heli make a product that will do the same thing? I'm sure they can and will but the fact is what's out there now works great so unless you're getting a free set from these guys for using your Spyder why wait?

:agree: :agree: :agree:

I have sat back and watched two or three post on this topic suggesting that people should wait with no proof as to why? So, now it's soap box time.

Everything I have designed, and NMN makes for the Spyder as well as our other product lines is made because I could not find, or get a quality enough product to meet my demands as an owner of those bikes and the Spyder too.

I have been able to see what I as a fellow owner and rider of these bikes could do to make that experience in owning and riding that bike better, safer, or more fun. I didn't need a "study group" to tell me what was needed or could be made better. I saw it myself first hand, just like all of you do.

I have PE unit #254, and have OWNED a spyder since ether last April when I put down my $1000 if you look at it that way, or the the first week in Dec 2007 when it finally came in.

I don't have to "borrow" a Spyder to make a product for it, and then hope the few hours or days I had it were enough to design and really try out a new product.

I live with my Spyder everyday just like all of you do, and I am able to do real first hand day to day testing as an owner would use the product. There is no replacing having your design engineer live with and ride the bike everyday, no matter who you are.

This is why I also have an SE5 (if it would only hurry up and get here LOL) on order too. So, once here we can meet the needs that model and it's owners have by living with one everyday just like you.

When I get an idea at 3 am, I can run out to my garage and follow that idea through, not have to beg and borrow a bike for a test of that idea and design days or weeks later.

I am all for inovation and new products being made for the Spyders 100%. But, as a designer, owner and rider of a Spyder as well as President of NMN I take exception to anyone saying....

... we don't have anything to show you or even be able to describe to you about our new product. But "trust me" you should wait.

If you have something show it! If not... well, the road to hell is paved with good intentions too.

If Heli does make a riser kit, I am sure it will be a fine product like all their other items are! But, that is yet to be seen!

Until then....

I have a real problem with anyone telling people they should wait, insuating that there is some short coming with NMN's or Kewlmetals products with no proof.

It's time as they say to ether "put up or shut up!"

That's my 2 cent rant on all of this.

My input is the Heli bars say you can keep the spyder PE plate. Dont the other one make you remove it?

Aslo Heli make only bars an have for long time. I think to take a look at them can not hurt an than make best pick for you.

Many have got winshield to soon an then wish they wait for other one. Can be same here.

No you are worng!

Currently the NMN riser kit is the only riser kit that lets you keep the PE plates in place.

Like I said if something really exists from Heli show it!

There is nothing here that will be able to be patented as a new idea or copyrighted as art. The concept of bar risers has been around forever. So it's not that for sure.

If you want people to "wait" for something it is only reasonable you show them, or at least give them a thorough explanation as to what it is they are being asked to "wait" for.

Sorry, but as a consumer myself, the "trust me" reasons to wait from a layperson with no proof as to why it's worth the wait just don't cut it!

I must be from Misouri, because "show me!"

hear ....hear magicman ..... curse them out ....get it all out .... dam it ....
(can i say dam it on this site)

I'm waiting, not because I want too, have to hang on till next year so my IRA doesn't fade away buying :spyder:goodies. Either that or I go back to work!:cus:

Sound like some one has axes to grind with heli. Many have wait for other after markit things with out many info on them. What do it matter to wait a few week?

Many got F1 as it was one of first out only to latter wish they wait for calsi or other.

This is same idea to me.

One thing I look at is how long a place been make this item. If they not make for other bike - is maybe a worry if this is there first time.

No offend to any place - just want many choice.

I think it's more of a vendor having pride in a well built product that works as advertised. :doorag:

I'm sure Heli would put out a good product too. Guess we'll wait and see but for now there are at least two working options that well over 100 members are right using now. :doorag:

Correct - glad their is pride in these unit. I am happy to have so many after market items for a new bike like spyder! More is beter!

Now if they can make the vss stop making so many problems.
