HEEEELP! Transmission issues

So, I was behind on my oil change and I got that taken care of. BUT I'm still periodically running a "Check Transmission" message that locks me down from upshifting.

This is inconsistant. It does it right after starting, after driving for about 12 minutes... you name it.

I did undo the pos. on the battery to see if anything would reset. I did the key thing. Nothing.

When I took it for a ride 20 minutes into the ride cruising in 4th it came on and wouldn't let me upshift. Then I slowed and downshifted, which it let me do, and it went off.

Any ideas what this is? It sounds like an electric glitch. The bike runs fine and changes gears fine.

The only thing I've done differently is that I added a stereo. A Shark 600w. Could that be causing me problems???

Check to make sure your oil level is not a little low, Just a little low will cause problems like yours.

Check the oil level, as was suggested. You can also pull the fuse to the stereo and see if the problem clears up. Beyond that, you should visit your dealer. Could be a bad GPS (Gear Position Sensor), and bad transmission module, or a similar glitch. The diagnostics should tell more.

You guys rock. Once I pull the fuse what do I do? (I know I sound totally dumb here) But honestly, this started when I got the dang radio. It has an inline fuse that runs right off the battery. Not hard wired in or anything.

Will I see something going on with the fuse?

Grabbing the flashlight to go out right now and check it out.

Okay, I've got a good look at the fuse. Nothing going on there. I can unplug the whole system and remove it from the bike. I think I'll try that. Even the power cord from the battery. This kinda bums me out cuz I like the radio but... it ain't worth not being able to ride my bike.

I'll run it and get it hot then check the oil.

It doesn't sound like you pulled the fuse. Pulling the fuse will quickly disable the radio and then you drive your Spyder and see if the problem you have goes away. If it goes away then the newly installed radio is your issue. If it does not go away then the problem is probably not due to your new radio.

Why pull the whole thing out until you know if it is causing the problem or not? You'll really hate yourself it you pull the entire system out and the problem remains.

Yeah, it took me a few to figure out what ya'll meant by 'pull the fuse'. LOL It only involves me removing the power line from the battery. I don't have the radio itself mounted permanently. I have a bag that I load it in and then plug in the power supply and speakers. That way I can remove it when I want. It's not hardwired.

You do have the hot wire fused though, right? But regardless. If you cut power to the radio this should put you back to pre-radio install conditions without removing anything else. Then you can test ride your Spyder to see if there is any improvement.

This is the easiest and most effective way to eliminate or pinpoint the radio as the cause.

Yup, hotwire has an inline fuse.
