• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. heat problems

I have read that the new 2013 RT is having a heating problem and some gas boiling. Has anyone heard of this problem with the 2012 RT. Thanks

I have 10K on my 2012 RT-S and have not ever seen the gas boil. Last Labor Day my wife and I rode N. Illinois to Manhattan, KS, 1600+ round trip, in 95+ temps. My right foot was very hot during the day but was fine once the sun was not beating down on it even though the temps were still in the 90's.

I am working on some mods to see if I can reduce the heat on the right foot. I measured the temps on the metal that the foot peg is attached to be 114 deg. The plastic at the radiator outlet at 134 deg. Foot pegs of splash guard foot rests work great to keep the feet cool.

WOW that was a fast response. Thanks for the info. I am new to the Spyder. All help is treasured :)

There have been reports of high heat by the radiator outlet on the RT's prior to the 2013's. I have not heard of the gas boiling issue with them. For the most part the RT's are not causing as much heat issues as the newly designed 2013 line. Some folks more issues than others but I do not know what the common denominator is.

For the 2012 and earlier Spyders it seems to be a hit or miss heat problem, not everyone has it.

When I had a 2010 RT there was never any noticeable gas boiling. On my 2012 Ltd there is obvious Gas boiling any time I open the cap soon after pulling off the highway for gas, even when outside temps are in the hi-80s. Both RTs had the RH hotfoot issue but have improved a litttle with mods.

Earlier on another topic someone suggested that gas boiling may be gas product or brand specific. ie High Ethanol or octane level. It would be interesting to check.

2010 RT, never noticed gas boiling. Going on 18,000 miles, there is Heat on the right foot area due to the radiator outlet, removed bottom panels and installed block off plate. I have Lamonster's NBV highway pegs and When using them your foot is above the lower air opening. I have found that the type shoes you have on makes a big difference on the heat getting to your feet. My leather boots deflect more heat, vented boots let it go through. I feel more heat with the vented boots than solid leather ones. On prior '13 models, there is heat on the right side, it is manageable though with minor mods. From what I have been reading something has changed on the new models (ST and maybe the RT as well). Seems there is less air getting in to the body and the hot air is getting trapped around the gas tank. I am sure that by now BRP is aware of this and I would expect to see some changes or fixes in the near future.

This may be only specific to the RT as my 2012 RSS has never had a heat issue on my foot or a gas boiling problem, yesturdays ride 105 on the guage and no problem whatsoever.
