• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Heat problems with the 2013 RT Spyder

I have just purchased a 2013 Spyder RT. I have seen posts about 2 modifications to this Spyder for heat problems, however now I can't find the articles..

Anyone have any ideas where I can find them,, I need to find out if this particular Spyder needs or already has had the mods completed.

HEAT PROBLEMS

Check with your nearest dealer. Give the dealer your VIN number and he/she can check the records. They can determine if the heat modifications have been done.

Look under your mirrors for black air scoops that look like this. They were added as part of the second big heat related recall. Also, if you bought from a dealer, and the recall wasn't done, that dealer violated federal law by selling it to you.

Any BRP dealer can enter your VIN in the system to see f the recall work was done or not.

Sorry - that picture is 90 degrees off!

Also pull the right hand Tupperware off so you can see the master cylinder - if it is wrapped in insulation, the first recall was done.

All good information above. The visible air scoops are a good clue. Trust but verify by going to BRP website or a dealer and have them input the VIN into the computer.

If these are on your bike: it's already been (most likely!) dealt with!

There you have it....

Spyderpops has several heat management system that help with heat issues. The main one is the ones mentioned above done by the dealership as per the recall for those models....

:agree: That's what you should do. All-in-all, there have been three separate Service Bulletins concerning the heat problem for the 2013 RT. The first was in the fall of 2013, the second during 2014, and then the ultimate recall in the summer of 2015. A dealer can check your serial number to insure that the bike you are questioning has had all three. Sorry I do not have more specific information available.

The last one, in 2015, was the major recall where the new scoops were installed. But the other two are important to check as well.

The very best way to know if your Spyder is the subject of any BRP updates or recalls is to take the VIN number to any dealer and they can tell you if the recall or update has been done anywhere.

HEAT PROBLEMS

I also have a 13 rtl. I took the bike in for the recall for the air scoops to be put on. I did not really have a problem with a heat built up before that. But, after I crawled under the bike, I saw an oval hole cut out of the bottom plastic covering. I figured that this provided a way for the hot air to escape the engine compartment. All n all, I have no problems and love the bike.

2013 RTS heat

The recall with adding the vents did not work for me, I had received 1st and 2nd degree burns on my right leg even after the so called fix. I have a 2013 RSS and it has not giving me any excess heat. they say the fix that does work is moving to a 2014 RTS with the 1330 engine.
