Heat from RS engine

Questions

New member
Recently purchased my 2011 RS and am wondering if anyone else is bothered by the amount of heat from the engine? Could removing the wind deflectors help during the summer months?

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new ryde!!

Check out Spyderpops among the Sponsors on the Home page. He sells a heat management kit which some people swear by.

I have yet to make the plunge. But, yes, the heat on the right side is impressive!

My 10 is the same way.

My husband is putting on baker wings to move the heat away. We asked the dealer about it and they say it's normal, although my right foot gets mighty hot.

The bike sure does heat me up,dealer also said not much can be done since the engine needs to be unobstructed in order to not overheat...New meaning to "hot pants" :O)

Most RS & RT owners who complain about heat complain about the heat on their feet, specifically their right foot in front of the blower. Spyderpops seems to be the best available remedy for that.

Some, like me, have had gripes about the saddle heat on their RS-- for me, after 30-40 miles, sitting on the stock seat feels like straddling a hot plate.

That was, until this week... I bought a Beadrider. The difference was frankly incredible for me; at speed I can literally feel the air rush underneath my seat. Plus, as a bonus, it helps me slide into the turn on the seat in preparation for cornering (just be sure to *prepare* for corners-- unlike the stock seat, on a Beadrider, you WILL be flung around on your seat if you take a turn without preparation).

That said, the beads *are* hard, and not something everyone enjoys. But it's an inexpensive fix, far cheaper than replacing the stock seat (which you may end up wanting to do anyway-- but, it's often best to try the cheaper solutions first).

I'm just curious - is anyone else confused by the heat issues? If I ryde on a hot day in stop-n-go traffic with shorts on, I feel a bit too much heat on one calf. But as long as I have my jeans on, I never even notice. I have an '09 RS/GS, if that matters.

:welcome: :congrats: :agree: I have the same problem. I was wondering if anyone has tried ISCI's Fan Can. This I am told by Billy Joe and Robert that this works for Jeff at ISCI. Jeff rids in gators with his Fan Can.

Does the SPYDERPOPS work for everyone? :dontknow:

Has anyone used anything else?

I have the ISCI Floor Boards and highway pegs.

Upon further investigation it seems to me that you need to take the hot air away from the leg as the SPYDERPOPS seem to do. IMHO it seems that the Fan Can from ISCI puts the heat back into the engine compartment wear it is already toooo HOT.

Any suggestions or input from others experiences would be great to a newbie like me.

Thanks in advance to all spyderlovers.

Check your Y gasket. nojoke

Thanks all for the input, I will read up on your suggestions and hopefully will come to a cooler solution....... Other than the heat I just love my bike.....

i have noticed in the past couple of weeks i get more heat blowing on both my shins. a LOT more heat.....on the days i ryde after mowing the lawn (in shorts. excluding to dry off after mowing i always ryde full gear and do not notice the heat on shins in jeans. course, i could just ryde a lot faster in gear and slower in shorts....

if it IS the 'y' gasket, is that the one everyone says wears out early and to replace with a Honda gasket? if so please repost which gasket it is (or i will just search again later.)

:welcome:Yes, heat is a issue as well with mine as well. I wore sandals and shorts the other day on a ride and I had to keep my foot on the outer egde of the foot peg because it was cooking my foot and leg. But, I should have known better. As others stated, my Y gaskets I think are shot (8000 miles). Good thing I have a Honda dealer in town.

Brunswick, you and I should try to meet up for a ride one day. We all live not to far from each other. My wife is also a RN. She works at Ellis.

Try ISCI FAN-CAN. It makes all the difference in the world on my Spyder!
Speaking about ISCI: can you please remind Jeff that I did not received the package with the new flag holder?

My ISCI Fan Can is currently on the way. I talked with Jeff in depth about it during Biketoberfest in Daytona. He rode all summer long with just a pair of Crocs on without and heat issues to his right foot. The Fan Can does not put the heat back into the engine compartment, but forces it all underneath the Spyder and down to the road.

When mine gets here I will post a full review, to include pictures of the installation process. From what I have seen so far, this will be just what the doctor ordered for my Spyder.

My ISCI Fan Can arrived and is now installed. You can check out my thread on it here: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=331848

I also stand corrected on my last post, as there are apparently two different versions of the can based on what fan you have on your Spyder. Mine does force the heat into the engine compartment, but it is nothing that is going to bother anything, and some extra air flow through there is likely a good thing anyway.

I am very happy with my decision.

I have the missing air dam...although it doesn't do much for me that I can tell, it's not doing any harm either...for the price, it's worth a try...
