Headlights: Other than HID lamps, is there another 'bright' bulb option?

I know about the $400 HIDs. And, of course, the $1200 BRP HIDs (no way, I'm spending that).
But, are there some replacement lamps for a fraction of even $400, that are an improvement over the stock lamps?

I'm using Sylvania Silverstar Ultra H7 bulbs. Ment to be 50% brighter, 50%wider and 40% further, they do seem to improve on low beam, but itsnot by much, and it also won't affect the electronics like the HID systems do. They are sold at Pepboys.

Volt series from xenondepot seems to work fine. Most uses extreme series but few members here using less expensive Volt series without any problem. I think they are like like 110 bucks each set.
Ask firefly. He has volt kits for head and fog lights.
I've tried 3 high output bulbs but there were not much improvement.

Don't waste your money. They are NO brighter at all --- actually give out less useable light as they are tinted bulbs--- people just think they give out more light because of the purplish/bluish appearance of the light.....Been plenty of tests on these-- and they simply cannot put out 'more' light... it's physically impossible...

Buy the VOLT version from Xenondepot--- they work just fine.

Well, okay! Forget those stinkin' bluish/purple pieces of crap! :clap: I want 'white'. What I buy must match the whiteness of my LED Day Runners. (the pucks are gone)

I think their kits run around $120 --- can't remember as it's been awhile. I went with the 4300k's as that light is more 'white' compared to the 6000k which is much more bluish/purplish.....

I have 2 sets installed-- headlights and fogs--- all 4300k and I can light up a freaking football field...... ;-)

I have these same Silverstar in my Burgman 650 and they are much bright than stock and give off a real white light, I have had some flash me thinking I have the highs on when its the lows and the highs are very bright. Not sure how they would work in the spyder since the lens are different from the Burgman.

I had a set of those on my ST1100.
Really nice bright light. Brighter than the OEM.
Bulb life was TERRIBLE. Absolutely horrible. Lasted less than one season., maybe 200 hours.
That may sound a lot for a car, 200 hours at night with the lights on, but a motorcycle has the lights on all the time.
That's one season. ONE SEASON. For a vehicle with bulbs that are so difficult to change as the Spyder, I'll go with the long life OEM bulbs.

Would really prefer LED... that is my ultimate goal for all the Spyder lights..........

4 years and i have replaced one or the other 5 times. it a real pain in the arse to replace them.

We have had some pretty good feedback from customers that have installed the Osram Nightbreaker Plus bulbs. These bulbs are made in Germany and are DOT compliant. I am not saying that they will be as bright as an HID upgrade however the feedback has been very good considering this bulb is rated at the same wattage as stock.

Anybody has tried the PIAA 18235 (Fog lights) and the PIAA 10925 (Headlights)? I really don't care about paying $$$ for HID's, I just want white lights rather than the conventional bulbs so they can pair up with the LED white Fender tip lights and LED fender strip?

On the packaging it looks that they are rated at a higher wattage than stock. I would not go with higher wattage bulbs as they will run hotter and can potentially damage your housing.

I have been using the Sylvania Ultra Bulbs, a step up from the Silverstars, happy with the light they put out, but they don't last long either, and yes, they are a pain to change out. I will go with the Piaa's or try the Osrams next.
