• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Haywood Co. Toy Run and Wheels Through Time

Sat. Nov 13th was the 2010 Haywood County Toy Run. I have never been to this and really didn't find out about it till the day before when I went to Wheels Through Time to buy some tickets for the 47 knucklehead they were raffling off there. It sounded like a good time so I made plans to go back the next day.

The ride started at Pisgah High School and ended up at WTT. When I got to WTT of Friday they were already getting ready to start cooking the BBQ. The guys had planned on enough food for 1500 people or so. This was all done on donations and out of pocket. There was no charge for the food or drinks.

I met one the guys doing the BBQ and we really hit it off. He had his 55 sedan delivery out in front where they were cooking the pork. I had a 55 just like that and there were very few of them built. This thing was really done up nice.

When I say I had one just like it, in reality it was nothing like it, mine wasn't red, it wasn't pro street and tubed and it didn't have a 500+ hp 427 like his.

If you look at this pic of my wife and my Harley you can see the taillight of my 55 sedan delivery in the background. Man I wish I still had that car.

We talked a little bit about his motor and I asked him how he would like to see that motor between your legs? I showed a pic of a bike I rode down in Daytona that had the same motor. You could put the tire up in smoke at 100mph. He just looked at me and said "you're crazy". :D

So Sat. I rode the RT back out to Maggie Valley and headed for the High School. There was all ready a good group there when I got there.

You could bring a toy or at least 10 bucks to do the run. I didn't have time to get a toy so I kicked in some bucks. As far as I know I was the only Spyder there out of 1485 bikes. It was a big hit with the crowd until this guy showed up. He was being towed behind a Goldwing. :D

We had police escort from the High School all the way to WTT but there were a few of us that took a wrong turn because the group got a little spread out on the highway. That turned out to be a good thing because we got a good parking spot and we got to eat before everyone else got there.

I spent a lot of time talking to folks about the Spyder and it was well received in this group. One thing I got to say is bikers are some of the most generous folks on the planet. nojoke
They wound up feeding over 2100 folks for free.
They had 1485 bikes and were able to collect over $120,000 in gifts and cash. This was not a wealthy group but they opened up their hearts and pocketbooks for the kids. I felt proud to be a part of this group.

So I didn't win the bike but I still had a great time and we couldn't have asked for a better day weather wise and turnout wise. I know toy runs like this are going on all over the country and if you have a chance to be a part of one I would highly recommend it. :doorag:

WOW, I know you had a great time. I can see why a seperation occured with that many bikes. I bet the sound of all those pipes was tremendous. And :agree:that bikers are a great group of people. That money will go a long way, I'm sure.:2thumbs:

LOL, someone brought a pig to a BBQ. :roflblack:

Speaking of WTT... When I was up at the Dragon a few months ago, some campers at Kickstand Lodge told me WTT was closed down. Have they reopened? I have one more weekend before heading back to Ohio and I'd love to see that place.

They never really closed, they just cut back the days they were open. If you wind up going let me know and I'll try and meet you there or somewhere along the way.

A good toy run is so much fun. And it does show how generous the biking community is. Wheels Through Time is a great place to end up!
