HAVE YOU HAD THE 2013 RT RECALL WORK DONE YET?

I think that you have to cut the upper wings shorter at the top, there was a thread about this a few months ago. Call Baker Built & ask them.

I had the 2013 RT Recall done a couple of weeks ago. I also had no more heat from under the seat and the glove box is cool. The weather here has been cool 60's 70's and low 80's since the work was completed and was pleased with the results. Yesterday it got up to the mid 90's and the heat coming out on the right is just about unbearable. It comes back towards my leg and pases back at a angle to the saddlebag. It not only hits my foot but on up my leg above my 8 inch boot. I have had the RT for two years and after the first year I changed on the vents and put on the adjustable vents. Either way I never had so much heat on the right side. I am wondering in doing the recall did they leave something out or had the new air scoops changed the air flow around the cycle? Reading the posts this problem has not been a major problem.

Yes I noticed the same thing. A lot of heat now out of the bottom right. I guess the new scoops push the air down and out. Around my seat is cooler than ever, actually very cool air now

Baker Air Wings

I'm getting mine done Sept. 9th, does anybody know If I can still use my Baker air wings after the recall Is done?

YES you can still use the Baker Air Wings and there was no modification done to them. I thought I was going to lose the top wing with the recall work but that is not the case..thankfully.

I agree that the the bike is a whole different bike after the recall.. I never had excessive heat but it was at times uncomfortable. Now the bike is just better and totally cool to the touch.

I believe what made a big difference was removing the wind deflectors. It didn't help much with the hot right foot problem but it shot air a little higher up and just past your leg and kept the heat away.

I notice it also, now that I've been riding a while in hot weather since the recall was done. I took a 3-day trip up to NY in July and a few days after I got home, I had a huge blister on the side of my right big toe, which I assume was from the constant heat.

Just the other day, I installed the 2014 RH grill (which includes a block-off plate for the lower opening), in the hopes that would remove the worst of the heat from my foot and let it escape through the grill, which is above my foot. It doesn't seem to be working as well as I hoped it would. So now, I guess I need to explore a way to cut some holes in the bottom panels below the back of the radiator. :sour: Or... maybe now that the recall has been done, it's finally time to install Spyder Pop's block-off plate. (I hadn't wanted to do that before the recall, because I didn't want to route any more heat inside cowlings.)

However you block it off, like I did or with Spyderpops plate, you must provide an alternative route for the hot air off the radiator to escape. If you don't you run the risk of running the engine too hot.

In my case I feel very little heat coming from the lower vent hole. My problem was my foot would roast when it was on the highway peg. That's why I blocked off the upper vent and not the lower one. With the added hole in the bottom panel there is plenty of opening for the air to escape.

It's a good point, but for those who don't have pegs, but instead the floorboards that come with the 2013 RT-S, then you are going to have your toes blasted by the lower "torch hole". With that said though, I have found (at least on my RT-S) that there is a slight drop in heat coming from that hole. I would describe it as tolerable. I'm talking about riding in 96 degree Flarda weather with my spyder reading 106.

Had the scoops put on my 2012 today. It keeps the heat away from the front of the seat, glove box and upper frame. My dealer, Proshop in Henderson NV did the work and BRP picked up the tab. Total cost $0. If you are having a heat problem on a 2010 to 2012 it doesn't hurt to ask.

Question: how long does it take?

The stuff from BRP on the recall says about 4 hours - dealer is telling me maybe 6+.
Also how do the black scoops look on the red Spyder??? :sour:

I hope they take six hours to do yours. "Careful" is better than "quick". ;)

The two-tone black scoops should look great on your red RT. Red/Black is a striking combination. Most folks have liked the way the scoops look on any color RT. There have been very few complaints about how they look expressed here on the forum. I had the same concern with my brown RT, but they do look good.

recall done! question....

Yes, he took over 6 hours to do the whole job. I watched some of it and he was very meticulous.
So my question: I've had the right side upper hole blocked with a Spyderpops plate and the lower hole open since I got the RT. He suggested the open grillwork part with the lower hole blocked. I see others have taken that part from a '14 and fitted it to their '13s.
What is the difference in airflow between the two openings?? Why close off the bottom and leave the top open? Does that really direct all the heat above your foot? I do not use highway pegs by the way.
Thanks for any thoughts you might have......;)

For the most part yes. With the '14 part the honey comb is deep enough that it directs the airflow outward when sitting still.Stand by the trunk and look at the radiator as it is not it is a straight shot back at you leg when the fan is running.

I wish you luck with your post recall 2013. Louise had hers done and other than 160 miles leaving her stranded twice, its been in the shop since. BRP is trying to figure out what went wrong but it appears there is damage to the wiring harness or connectors due to the relocation of components and the severity of the work done. They will eventually find and fix it I guess.

We purchased a new 2015 and Mancuso all but refused to take the 2013 as a trade. We still own it as they would not give us even half of NADA value....

:agree: Much less heat on my right foot now, except when I try to put it up on the highway peg. :sour:
