Not gonna lie I myself tend not to wave unless I'm just putting around relaxed cruising (I do make an effort if waved at if the situation permits, but they will get the head bob if I can't do anything else). But as far as the thumbs down that sure beats the bird I normally get, in fact on one weekend ride I had the joy of being flipped off by a whole club ass passed going the opposite direction. It was actually a well coordinated affair.

I wave at pretty much anything but mopeds. Out here the sport bikers seem to be a bit more likely to wave than the Harley crowd.

Unless I'm on the interstate, I wave at everyone (excluding scooters and mopeds :doorag: ). I'd say 50% wave back. I find it ironic when trikes don't wave back.

I got a lesson in instant street cred when I bought my dual sport. I had guys waving at me as I towed it home on a trailer.

Mopeds are cool!!! Those guys are out there fighting traffic with only 49cc's. I demand that you wave at them from now on.

Actually I get more waves on my Spyder than I do on my Burgman. I have had people wave at my Burgman and then quickly try and take it back when they realize it is a scooter.

Well I'm a "waver"; everybody gets some sort of acknowledgement if they within sight of me...
I've found that maybe the Beemer-riders wave back the least; followed by the HD crowd.
Wingers wave the most; often with the biggest grins too! :2thumbs:

Wow...reading this thread sure was interesting lol. I am a brand new rider, I will wave if I am in a comfortable (and controlable) situation. For the most part I do keep both my hands on the 'wheel'. If I don't wave back, I try to nod, but sometimes I am concentrating on what I am doing and until I notice that someone has waved, I might miss it. I hope they don't feel like I just snubbed them! Totally NOT the case!

Funny story though, I was riding with my husband and our friends, each on our own bikes, I was last. I just had my bike a week on this ride, so I was totally 'zoned out' trying to pay attention to where I was in my lane (so my hubby didn't have to lecture me for anything when we stopped haha). We passed two people on an RT. I just saw them at the very last second passing by me going the opposite way. We both waved to each other SO BIG that when our group finally got to our destination, everyone was still laughing about it. I was sooo excited to see another Spyder out there that day. In my area, you usually don't get to see that many since it is pretty rural. If I would have been by myself that day, I probably would have turned around and went to catch them for their phone#!

I wouldn't call a "thumb's down" a hater sign. He didn't like the Spyder...so what? [/B].

I agree that the thumbs down doesn't mean he hates, like we all hate taxes, but the fact that he got me to wave first only to follow it up with the thumbs down does qualify him as a "hater". He went out of his way to invoke a response so he could drive home his feelings to ward me and what I was riding; no question... It bothered me for a little while but then I got over it when I realized what this guy must be like to be around. My guess, not a lot friends.
