• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has to be a better way to mount the mirrors.

HUH ??????

MikeGuyver,
Is it a cool fix for the problem, and can you replicate it? :dontknow: :D
:hun:.....Bob, I'm confused .......I came up with a fix ( and posted PICS ) and robtdonna also came up fix a similar fix ( and also posted PICS ) ......Soooooooooo if I did it first , how is it even possible to replicate something that one (ME) already did ??????? :lecturef_smilie::dontknow::banghead:........Mike

From what I could gather from your comments; it seemed as if you felt as if their solution had some additional advantages... :D

YEP !!!!!

:agree:
.......................Yes I did , Hence my info in what I posted about it .................Being able to easily to remove the new attachment TABS makes it much easier to accurately make the HOLES in them..............There isn't a lot of room for drilling on those TABS once they are mounted ............I have always believed all things can be improved upon ...EVEN MY STUFF :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.........................Mike

BUILDING IT !!!!

Well... Can you, and would you; build it? :D
.....:hun:....Bob who are you addressing this Question to ??????..............If me .....Yes I can ( I already have ) . And if you promise to actually put it on your Spyder and not give it away :yikes:.......I would certainly consider it ............Mike

mirrors

hey fellas, mike and robtdonna - thanks in advance , I will be doing this fix on my mirrors as well. they are loose and vibrating constantly.

OKEY DOKEY

I only gave away; what you told me to...
And yes; I'd put it on my bike... :2thumbs:
:clap::clap::clap:.....Then I'll make you the EASEY PEASEY modified really simple one .........Because it will be absolutely FREEEEEEEEEEEE. You will have to bend it on the dotted line as per the included instructions...........After you put this MOD on I Guarantee the Mirror cannot fall off even if you decide to drive it on the surface of the MOON or something similar .... :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.........Mike :ohyea:

DID BOB'S

hey fellas, mike and robtdonna - thanks in advance , I will be doing this fix on my mirrors as well. they are loose and vibrating constantly.
:agree:.....I just finished making the template ( very very thin aluminum ) For Bob's Mirror CLIPS .....I will transfer this to 22 gauge galvanized sheet metal......I wish I could draw on this computer .....However I will document What I did and How I did it with PICS ................Using " robtdonna's " idea of putting the front clip under the OEM steel POST makes waaaaaaay more sense than My original idea of riveting the clip on............I think will I remove my PICS ...............IMHO a single clip in the front is all that's needed to keep to mirror firmly in place ...........if it can't move , the other OEM clips will not come off ..................Mike ........again Thanks Robert for your idea on the improvement :thumbup::thumbup:

Interesting to see how this has evolved with the input of several owners. Good work Mike. Look forward to your updated pics, You have stuck with this and are really on to something. Some of the best fixes are the simplest.

My pleasure.

BMW Owners

I wonder why the prior BMW owners haven't piped up?? My K12 had exactly the same mounting issue, and there are several vendors who offer a nice pre-made cable to assure you don't lose a mirror. However, all you really need is a bit of picture hanging cable or nylon fishing line - form a loop on each end - solder the cable, or tie the line - place a screw/washer at each end, and you are done.

The only trick is to make the line long enough to be able to remove the mirror to get to the hardware under it, but not long enough to make it a problem to stow, when reinstalling the mirrors. Should be able to do this for under a buck.

Since I'm an ex-BMW owner, I don't even consider this a farkle, just something that needs to be done as soon as you bring a (BMW) Spyder home.

YES IT DOES .........BUT ALSO

:agree:.......The cable will work,.........However it doesn't simplify the on / off problems with the current mounting system....( which ours does )..and if the mirror does come off , granted you won't lose it ......But do you really want it swinging and bouncing against the side of the Spyder until you get safely stopped ........and I think that would be a dis-traction from your driving that may cause an accident .................Mine and Robert's FIX will prevent the issue in the first place ........I'm not telling anyone this is a MUST do thing ....just showing what can be done ..........sort of preventive Maintenance..........just sayin..........................and Thanks for joining the discussion .......Mike
