Has anyone had any issues with the rear lid catching on the rear passenger back rest

HI Everyone,

Question:

Has anyone had any issues with the rear lid catching on the rear passenger back rest on the trunk on a 2023 F3 LTD?

I am attaching pictures:

I insert a piece of plastic when open/and close the back lid.

Also, When did they change the back lid on the F3 models?

Does anyone have any suggestions/or solutions for the fix?

I have a 2023 F3 LTD Special.

I sorta guessing here. (read totally but chucking it out there)

To remove that pad on some you remove the retaining screws, then lift the pad up.

Maybe its not in position correctly.

Perhaps removing, repacking the cover and refit the pad ensuring its all the way down may improve it.

If the cover is a little loose. Well when I recover seats I stretch it and secure it with a staple gun on the underside of the seat.

Deanna, I was at my dealer this morning looking at a twin to your SE (BEAUTIFUL machine, btw); it has (nearly) the same issue, the standard F3 Limited next to it, did not. It appears (to me) that the problem might be in the way the seat-back is mounted to the topcase or the form that holds the back cushion is miscast. I would talk to your dealer and seek a remedy though them.

I've seen this on multiple f3's. You're talking about the rubber flap, not the seat back cushion itself. The only fix I've found so far, is to put a little silicone lube on the flap where it rubs. It will last for quite a while.

At the risk of offending you..., OP should not have to use a piece of plastic to open or close her topcase lid; it is a defect in craftsmanship and a warranty issue.

Isopedella,

The pad is in-place. The pad has as a slight bump( Manufacturer defect on it) which I posted a picture of.

The back of the passenger seat is fine.

The cover is not loose.

Are the retaining screws on the side of the lid?

Spyderdave,

I think that the "form that holds the back cushion is miscast. I'll go the can am dealership and show them and ask them for a remedy. I'll do that this week. I'll post on this thread to see what I the dealership says.

I'll let you know.

Jetfixer,

Yes, I am talking about the rubber flap behind the back cushion. This week I am going to the dealership to see if I can get a remedy from them.

Thanks for the suggestion.

spyderdave,

I agree with you about the "defect in the craftsmanship and a warranty issue.

Also, No, I should have to use a piece of plastic to open and close the topcase lid.

Jetfixer,

Look at picture # 3 in my first post, it shows the OEM defect in the rubber flap, and the indents of where the 2 screws are.

I dont know for sure but on my 2017 Ltd there are 2 screws on the front wall of the trunk.
I have not done it but suspect if you remove the screws it may come off like in this video.
Do Not push on the screws apparently.

Mine looks like this. The top of the drink bottle is pointing to the RH screw looking forward.

Thinking it may be similar to this.

Late edit.

Yours is brand new isn't it? Dealer fix?

Isopedella,

Yes, My spyder is brand new. I'll check with the dealership this week and see what they say. I hope they open up a case with BRP. The dealership should run it thru the warranty. It is a OEM manufacturer defect.

No offense taken! I agree completely, but I'm not sure there IS a fix from Can Am.

Deanna, try removing the pax backrest. Then see if you can reposition the rubber flap to sit more forward, which will give you more room. If I remember correctly, I was able to trim the rubber with an xacto knife so that it sat further forward at the screw slots. The dab of silicone still helps.

I wouldn't mess with at all. Its brand new. Worst case is something gets damaged. Take to the dealer and let them sort it I reckon.

Jetfixer,

Look at picture # 4 on the 1st post.

Behind the backrest are 2 holders/hooks for the backrest( which are built-in) to hold the backrest to the bike. I can't move the backrest forward because of the 2 holders/hooks. If I could I would.

It is a very poor design behind the backrest, rubber flap, and the lid.

The above pictures are a temporary fix until I get to the dealership.

Isopedella,

I will not mess with it. :agree: I'll take it to the dealership and let them handle it.

HI All,

I appecate the suggestions and comments on trying to get a solution.

I am going to take the bike to the dealership and let them take care of it.

The bike is brand new. I am going to use the warranty on it.
