• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has anyone ever mounted the transponder part of a key next to the ignition to bypass DESS?

Has anyone ever taken the transponder part of a key, and simply mounted it underneath the bezel next to the ignition? Seems like a simple way to "bypass" the system without doing anything.

Then a regular key would work, right?

(Of course it's probably been done and my search-fu was just not good enough to uncover the thread)

Because then you could use unchipped keys.
It only takes one key to run it and one as a spare, as the spare is needed to get a new key made if you lose the main one. My spare is hidden in a locked compartment, I have a key cut that is always on my key ring in my pocket that unlocks the compartments.

Or you could just get the DESS disabled, cos as a 'Security System', that has been proven to be a tad problematic on many of the 2014 to 2018 Spyders across the model range, and on some newer Spyders too, albeit only 'a few' of the newer machines... Bearing in mind that if the DESS fails, it's often in a way that's not just something you can work around - it's a 'contact help and get it towed somewhere to wait until they can source and replace a bunch of components' type of job, while you sit around Spyderless for a few days (IF you're lucky! 😒) cos your Spyder just won't run AT ALL until the DESS issue is sorted! 😣

So even if you '... simply mount the transponder part of a key ...' anywhere that works, chances are pretty high that your Spyder is still not gonna run at all if/when your DESS fails, no matter where you are or how many transponders &/or keys you have!!😖

Just Sayin' ;)
