OK YESTERDAY I WENT RIDING WITH A GROUP OF HARLEY RIDERS. I WAS ON MY :spyder2:RT. WE HAD STOPPED AT MCDONALDS FOR BREAKFAST WHEN THIS ONE GUY STARTED TO BRAG ABOUT HIS HARLEY AND HOW HE HAD TALKED HIS ONE BUDDY TO FINALLY GET A REAL BIKE....A HARLEY....SO AS I LISTENED I AM THINKING ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE MY :spyder2:.......SO I SAID...." WELL I LOVE MY :spyder2:......AND I DON'T HAVE TO PUT MY FEET DOWN......:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

If you park with a bunch of Harleys; which bike do you think people will walk up to and start asking questions about?? :2thumbs:

My friends who ride Harleys LOVE when I go riding with them. Whenever we stop nobody bothers them anymore. I have to field all the attention and they get to go to the bathroom in peace.

Plus ....Harleys are so expensive and always breaking down!

There is a small group out there that believe it is the only bike and you are not a rider until you own one.

I have met less and less of them over the years. When I was riding in the MC club--some of those with HD's would look down on other brands, but were not vocal about it.

The last 3 years, I have had more questions about Spyder from HD folks, than bad things. Some of them are even starting to wave these days.

I have riden motorcycles since 1965 and have owned over 30. All the way from 80cc to 2000cc (Vulcan LTD). I think I can be considered a motorcycle rider--even though I have never owned a HD.

Lamont and I were getting on our Boulevard M109R's in the parking lot outside our hotel some years ago when 2 elderly ladys walked up. They stopped and commented on how nice they looked. Then one of them asked me "What kind of motorcycle is that?".

I told her what it was and she said, with a bit of sadness in her voice; "It isn't a Harley?" I said, No, it was a Suzuki. She shook her head, looked me straight in the eye and said; "You should get rid of that and buy a Harley, sonny... Harley's are Real motorcycles!".

Then she and her friend walked away both shaking their heads. Lamont and I just looked at each other. There was nothing more to say....

bought a new harley a few years back, sold it less than a year later with 1700 miles, felt very unconfortable around the hd crowd, the ones i met were jerks, i know there are some good hd riders out there, they Are just hard to find

For many years I owned a Harley or two long before most of these so called Hd bikers that now ride but only for a few years. In the early times I know that there was a difference in attitudes between Hd riders and Honda's, etc, etc. The real reason was that Harley was a US made cycle and was the only one excepted other than European bikes, etc. I beleave they thought that the outside market was a threat to them.. Not true now. I still ride with mostly Harley guys and have very little issues with them about my Spyder. With some there is no hope due to them having rocks in the shoes giving them a bad attitude. They will never grow up. When the day comes that there is more spyders on the road I will have a crowd of my own to ride with. Bob

Harley Vs. Anything

Yes it's a sad to think how uninformed so many people must be when they buy a bike, kind of an embarrassment to motorcyclist, but you have to give them credit, they somehow have kept people buying those things year after year- now that is real marketing Genious. Don't try to confuse them with any facts about performance or reliability, I'm OK with them only because I know they create a ton of jobs in this country. I try to just ignore them but it's not easy since most of them are SO LOUD...

we had a springer-softtail .. on our first trip over the alps to the village where my wife was born ..
we lost most of the chrom-parts - on the end my girl had to carry our lisence-plate on her back :ohyea:

changed back to BMW ..(after one year with a gold-wing) and found the queen of the alps 4 years ago..

I've purchased several basket case Shovelheads over the years - just to repair and sell for fun - I'd never ride one anywhere. I've also owned three V-rods, and loved them all - rode one to Jasper, AB and back, after adding a windshield and hard bags - really fun to ride, and would eat the other Hardley's for lunch. Unfortunately, Hardley won't use that drive train for a decent touring bike, and the other Hardley riders treat them like "rice burners" (which I like & prefer too).

Can't begin to count how many potential Triglide customers I've converted with my RT...

Your welcome to ride with my group. There were 15 spyders on the last weekend ride. Half of the group is from the Chicago area and we have a ride going on alomost every weekend. We meet the first sunday of the month at the Bristol Tap in Brisol, IL not too far from you. :chat: I'm going on a 4-state ride this weekend with others from the area.

I was in Bar Harbor, ME last week when around 20 Harley's from Canada showed up at the Hotel. They all came over the look at my Spyder and while we wer takling I stated that will all you guys from Canada riding Harley's it is funny that I'm the only one with a Canadian bike.

We all had a good laugh

:agree: Loud....bike and rider. :roflblack: I actually have friends that ride Harleys, the're not all bad.

My new bike that's been in the shop for three weeks has louder pipes than my husbands Harley nojoke. In fact my old one that I'll be riding at the 4 State ride this weekend has loud pipes too :D - I actually like riding in the back. It can be very interesting in group rides! As for Harley riders, I ride with three Harley Clubs and all but one person has been very welcoming - that person just doesn't like 3 wheelers of any kind. Like my husband says, doens't matter what ya ride as long as you enjoy it.

Harley has set up the HOG club (Harley Owners Group) giving customers a place to go and people to ride with , it is nation wide. That is what BRP needs to setup at every dealer for their customers. Harley is the best at sales with all their products giving people something to buy and people to share them with. Can not count all the rides with Hog that we stopped at a dealer some place alon the ride. Very Smart People. (Willey Gee D.) And thanks for the invite! Bob

They actually kind of do have it set up already... If you go to Can Am's webiste for the Spyders, there's a spot on it where you can register and log in to a community area...
But it does need some better advertising for it!

Harlry high price

Nothing aginst Harley but when I went to buy my big bore crusier I looked at the Harley soft tail and with the 103 motor, windshield, bags and chrome I was looking at $23,000 to $24,000. I went to Yamaha and found a 1700 Roadstar Silverado with every thing on it just like the Harley for $12,000:D save a lot of money.

I hope Lamont sees that I have not made any comments on this thread. :yikes::yikes: Opps...... I may have just made one. :roflblack::roflblack:
