There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hardcases on New RS

Just bought a new 2011 Spyder RS and have three initial questions.

First: Should I purchase BRP or GIVI mounting hardware for the hardcases? I like easy and reliable.

Second: Where and how best to install electrical boxes-switched and unswitched-on the new bike?

Third: Where and how to install an unswitched cigarette plug for heated clothing?

And a free bonus: How to install an AutoCom with push-to-touch switch wires? I can wire it from the electrical box in 2, but would like to understand how other folks have dealt with the various plug in radio cables?

Thanks for any assistance. I have ridden BMW RTs for many years, but a bad leg has put me off bikes. So this is all new to me.

:welcome:

I have had experience with the BRP/GIVI bags on my GS. They come with all the mounting stuff. I had my dealer install mine since I am not mechanical.

Can't give you advice about the electrical stuff--but someone will come on and help.

The BRP Givi bags are great! They have SW Motech mounts, which are removable when you want the sporty look. We also remove them in the trailer, to allow additional bikes to be loaded beside the Spyder.

This pretty much depends on your desires. On Nancy's GS, I mounted the large auxiliary fuse block up front, opposite the factory fuse box. On my RTs, I used an Eastern Beaver 3CS, and mounted it under the bodywork near the battery. This is probably not a good solution with the BRP bags, since the rear panel is hgarder to remove with that modification. Some folks have ounted a fuse box under the seat, though.

Third: Where and how to install an unswitched cigarette plug for heated clothing?
You can run a circuit from your new fuse box. Do not use the existing Spyder switched or unswitched accessory circuits. They are limited to 3 amps. On Nancy's Spyder I ran a Gerbing harness, and I also installed both switched and unswitched Powerlets. The harness can be run from the auxiliary fuse box or the battery. Nancy's Powerlets are located on the dash.

For our Starcom1 systems, I tucked the GS unit under Nancy's dash. Kind of a pain there. On my RT it is under the seat. That works better, and it is easy to route the wires. Don't run in parallel to the Spyder's main power feed for very far, though. It will cause interference.
