Happy with my RT

We worked hard to get 600 miles on our Spyder our first week so we could get the first service out of the way. Temps in Michigan were running in the 90's with high humidity, but Geri hung in there and joined me on each ride.

We have some pretty back roads even in SE Michigan. We went out through Gregory and Unadilla, headed to the old courthouse in Stockbridge, and then introduced our new Spyder to a place we often visit - Hell!

No problems in the first 600 miles, I'm getting better at driving it, and it handles a lot better since I increased the front shock resistance, which had been set at the lowest level. Now it doesn't dive into the corners so much, although the ride is a bit harsher. But all is well and the Spyder has already earned a place in our hearts.

1st Impression

Well I finally received my RT-S SE5 (Black) from the Texas dealer this past weekend and have put about 100 on it already.

Background:
Have ridden motorcycles for years until an injury kinda made holding up a bike difficult at best. So after reading about the Spyder and reading almost everything on here I decided to buy one without even a test/demo ride (I was that confident about the product). Could not get one here in Indy due to lack of product so I called Richardson Motorsports in TX and bought one form them totally loaded & with a trailer to boot & had it shipped here to Indy.

So far here is what I think of the Spyder:
1) FUN!!! While the handling characteristics are different from a regular motorcycle (yes I knew it would be) it was an easy adjustment to get use to due to having ridden snowmobiles and quads. Very smooth ride.

2) The SE5 transmission is a joy to use, or not if you are down shifting, so anyone who cannot or has not rode a motorcycle can do just that with this machine. My 14 y/o son has even ridden it up & down the driveway and says it's his favorite toy! The Reverse gear is a blessing.

3) The ability to carry gear on the bike alone is awesome. Although BRP should have made the saddle bags top loading so gravity isn't an issue when opening (gear falling out). That said the trailer is very roomy even if the lock popped out upon my 1st attempt to use it (never should have happened BRP!).

4) The Corbin seat is very comfortable and my son feels very comfortable sitting in back. The only problem is it is jammed and the guide pin will not disengage from the locking mechanism. Corbin has been notified but if anyone knows a fix to "unlock" the seat please pass it on.

5) Steering sensitivity was as expected due to comments by other members (Thanks Guys!). Lighter grip works and reminds me of my days flying where a white knuckle death grip on the controls was never a good thing!

6) The right side "Blower from He _ _" should have been addressed during testing as well as the heat from the "Center Oven" (glovebox).

7) While the iPod is a neat asset, there should have been a "holder" for it versus letting it flop around. iPods aren't cheap & securing it should have been a consideration (short sightedness by BRP).

Overall I would say I am very pleased with the purchase of this 1st generation product and think BRP did a good job…. Nowhere for the bike to go but up which means a better future product for the consumer. Even a die hard Harley riding neighbor who thought I was crazy for buying one changed his mind after he took it for a quick ride! His words, "Neat' and "Fun".

Bottom line, I would not hesitate to buy another Spyder or recommend one. Now time to start adding mods and making it "mine" and putting on the miles! :2thumbs:

welcome For a "stuck" seat, press down hard on the right front part of the seat, over the latch pin, while turning the seat lock to the unlock position. That usually frees it up in a few tries. Then lower the latch pin a bit, and lube the pin and latch mechanism. It may take a few tries to get it right, but it has worked for me on the stock seats, and should work for the Corbin.

Thnx for the advice Scotty but Corbin recommended exactly that. It is still "locked up". :dontknow:

I may just hold off until the 600 mile service and have the "professionals" deal with it. There is only so much sweating a man can do in a day! LOL
