Happened Again

I was out riding this afternoon on a semi deserted US 17. Stopped for a traffic light on a four lane highway. I was the first and only vehicle until I heard IT. That unmistakeable roar of the HD (HAWG). The driver was an older gentlemen and the bike had so much chrome I squinted even though I was wearing my sunglasses. Thinking I would be friendly, I turned and looked at him to give him at least a thumbs up. You know, kindred spirits. Well, no go on his part. Kept looking straight ahead while revving up the HAWG :shocked:. I guess he wanted me to be fully aware that he was riding a MOTORCYCLE , not a three wheel ride for nursing home escapees. To make a long story short, light turns green, I take off, look in right mirror to see what happened to the HAWG. I saw him in my right hand mirror
coming up fast. I let him pass me. I HAD MADE MY POINT:yes::yes: When are they going to accept the fact that the RS SPYDER is a bad a-- machine to be reckoned with when you take off from a dead stop. This has happened to me many times, not just HDs but other bikes as well. I proceeded on to the drug store to buy my "old" folks medicine (BP medication). You know, if I could do that same maneuver about three times a day, I might not have to take my meds any more :roflblack::roflblack:

The truth is, if he were happy with his ride he would be more friendly to others. He probably feels trapped in his stereotype and hates others who have broken out into the world of possibilities which sadly, he will probaly never be able to do.

Since he is miserable, feeling guilty about the ride he has chosen, he is hoping to bring you to his level of suffering. But the Spyder is just too much fun to let stuff like this get you down.

he probably cant hear from the years of the OMG loud pipes and cant see clearly due to the vibrating HD he rides from blue sky to blue sky with no helmet and is to afraid of getting it dirty because all the chrome takes him a week to polish out

thank got i have Tupperware and 3 wheels i ride all day long in all weather if it is less than pleasant weather i get home let it drip in the garage and hose it off to remove the big parts and ride again

My best friend and his wife have a super large, heavy HD Ultra Classic with all of the chrome, farkles etc. I have an RT-S with Glo-Riyders. Watching him and his wife shake rattle and roll at stop lights cracks me up! He asked me once what time it was as he could not read his watch on his vibrating wrist! Well needless to say he was always comparing the HD to the Spyder with an air of good natured superiority until his misses had a ride on the back of mine. Now he is strangely quiet. I would love to hear the conversations at home!

I'll let you'all know which Spyder he buys later!

I really don't care what the HD riders think. hyea:I know my machine is awesome.:yes::yes: I ride with HD riders all the time and I catch them looking really hard at my Spyder. Most of them are really jealous. nojoke

Riding with the Cartersville HOGS today. Been a member for 9 years or so. I've never had one bad word from anyone in the group and still ride a lot with them. Several have the Spyder in mind for their next bike. So, their not all bad, but I sure have met some nutcases on the road. I was at a stop light in Rome, GA last fall and this guy was all noise and chrome - while blipping the throttle to get going like a "real rider." I just did a normal accelleration from the stop light while he stalled in his lane. It was really funny. About a mile later, here he comes 20 mph over the limit and blastsd by me. Another couple miles up the road, a GA State Trooper had him pulled over. I just gave a couple beeps on my $40 air horn and waved. Guess he showed me how a real man rides!! I've sold my HD Road Glide, and I will readily admit I miss it - pretty darn nice bike, but I'm a happy camper on my RT.

I have found that almost 100% of the Harley drivers are friendly and in their own way courteous.


It might be the area I live in.
Red Neck Pennsylvania, so they figure anybody might beat the crap out of anybody at any time.
I dunno but I'm glad that at least so far The Attitude isn't apparent here.

Roger, some how I just can't fathom anyone not liking or getting along with you.

This whole "Unfriendly Brethren" thing has been around since the second brand of bikes came out... :gaah:
I've found that; for the most part, Harley riders are no less friendly than anybody else... You're always going to find somebody who's having a bad day if you look hard enough.

The trouble with spitting contests is that sometimes the wind blows the wrong way! I don't try to match wits (or the lack thereof) with anybody. I am comfortable with what I choose to ride, and I have earned the right to ride what I please. I feel that other riders have done the same. If the feel like flaunting it, I smile at their folly, and just ride my ride. One never knows when the wind may suddenly shift, if you get caught up in the contest.

:doorag::spyder2: Working secuity at the bar in Key Largo We get the the outlaw motorcycle gangs thru here weekly wearing their colors. They park next to my spyder and show a lot of interest in the spyder. Some of the gang members even talk to me about how they may oneday move up to a spyder. A great number of these guys are now in their sixties, and having medical issues. In the future we may see the outlaws on spyders. I have never had a security issue here with any of the gangs. I find them to be fun loving and great to hang out with.

I agree with a lot of what has been written in this thread. And would add...

That HD rider may not want to look left or right in case the Chrome blinded himself, and that would not be good for anyone... :roflblack: Or he is simply happy as a clam and could care less who or what was around him..

And for me it simply depends on my own mood on how I would interpret the situation and how I would respond. I can say most of the time I am received like most in a "Just like everyone else" manner. Those that place their nose in the air have every right to. So in return I have every right to laugh at them inside my helmet as I know what they are missing.

And frankly. I think it is more about maturity than anything else. I have problems on the road with "Punks" on crotch rockets. Not ever have I had any issue on the road with an HD ryder...

the vast majority of HOG's are good people... more interested in the mechanics than anything else... but YES, there are those that think their rides are the ONLY true ride... i had 3 young boys (mid 30's i'd say) come up to me at a local rally... 2 seemed interested, and i had this look on his face of discust... he openned his mouth and made a comment something like, "what's this piece of junk?" my reply was, "it's a SPYD3R" to which he replie, "i wouldn't be caught dead on that thing"... to which i replied again with, "thank God, I'd hate to think that you and I would have the same taste in bikes"... to which his buddies started laughing at him... he walked off embarrassed while they were saying, "that old man got you good"....

if everyone like only the same things, this world would truely be a boring place...

Scotty, I couldn't have said it any better. I have probably been through all of the thumbs up thumbs down middle finger snears and smiles since first riding the Spyder. I'm to old and life's to short to worry about it. I've left a few in the rear view mirror and I've stalled on take off as well. That's life...
