Handling Issue

Mike
I usually agree with what you have to say
But it could be alignment
the front tires are aligned to the rear tire when doing a Rolo alignment
If who ever mounted the rear tire changed the tracking on the belt then the rear tire is not aligned with the front tires znymore
It does not take much to change it
Just my 2 cents

I disagree. If the belt was running anywhere near correct before and is running anywhere near correct now, the rear wheel angle has not moved enough to be measureable. We are talking hundredths of a deg to adjust belt tracking.

It was aligned and driving fine before the tire change and rides like crap now. Its the tires. Have the dealer remove them and give you your money back, preferably installing new high quality tires. If the dealer chose to rep those awful tires, they need to deal with the time loss for having done so.

That is a video of a properly aligned and tensioned belt.

There seems to have been a spate of recent blathering over several threads of how the belt moves all over the sprocket and is always in a different place each time it is stopped.

Thank You.

Okay. Here is the latest.

Tried the switching sides the pull went to the opposite side. Played with tire pressure still no good.

Spoke with Jerry from AJ Parts who is a sponsor here and where I purchased the tires. Also spoke with Lynn from Vee Rubber. Both gents were very helpful.

There is definitely an issue with the tire. I am sending them back for a refund and putting my old tires back on for now. They still had pretty decent tread and it drove fine.

Thank you to everyone with your help and suggestions.

Glad to hear you found the source of the problem.

MOVING BELT VIDEO

Thank you for posting this, I feel validated ( on this point , anyway :dontknow: :roflblack: ) Well I think this video is / was an eye-opener for a lot of folks here, who may have thought the Drive Belt stays exactly where they have it set for on the Sprocket...........NOT :gaah::gaah::gaah:.........Mike

.. If what you say is true about the alignment, then tell me why the handling on my RT always feels exactly Spot On............and every time I get off and look at my rear sprocket the belt has moved.....Someone here on Spyderlovers found a Video on U-Tube of what the belt does on a moving Spyder .........IT MOVES BACK AND FORTH ACROSS THE SPROCKET ....continuously !!!! .........:dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:.........................Mike

I would not argue with those findings. Actually we could take alignment further as we had to with rotating equipment. The out put pulley on the transmission should be in correct alignment with the rear wheel sprocket. This failure could account for the drive belt moving. For the drive belt to walk back and forth, normally it would take a wobble of one or both sprockets. This wobble could be as little as manufacturing tolerance. This is not an absolute, as in many years of having trouble shooting as a major part of my vocation, I have seen " Murphy's Law " at work too often. I also believe that Finnigan was correct when he said Murphy was an optimist. With this said, the alignment of the output pulley to the drive sprocket, along with the belt movement, should be unrelated to the handling of the Spyder. The belt alignment I spoke of in previous posts was not the drive belt, but the belts in the tires. On mine, my tires were built with these belts misaligned. This will cause a wheel to wobble.

I guess your reality differs from mine.

I didn't see the drive belt "walking all over the pulley" and ending up in a different place every time.

Just sayin' so must make it so.

Anyone can watch the vid and make their own mind up whether or not the belt goes all over the pulley as you have repeatedly stated.

I too have put Vee rubber all around on my 09 RS SE5 and have ride on in all the tires (used La Monsters recommendations) no weights and when i reach 89 the bike starts to shake as i get over 90 it will shake so bad that it will go into limp mode and i get all kinds of lights on the dash. Now if i pullback on the handlebar with both hands and accelerate, i can go thru that point to triple digits. At lower speeds it is fine. it has been laser aligned, and the original Kenda which were worn on the inside before the alignment were swapped/rotated and it had no problems. when the new tires were put on i had the tech realign the rear a 2nd time to make sure and it still had the issue. going thru this i did find some play in the upper ball joints and replaced them, issue has not changed. i have not gotten a response back from the guys i got the tires from or from Vee rubber yet and it's been at least 2 months. sorry this does not help, but you are not the only one.
