• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

handle bar issues

Been a member since 2010, however first time asking for information. I purchased a new 2009 RS and am extremely pleased with my spyder. With that said, in may of this year I purchase a 2014 RSS for my wife. At approximately 700 miles she noticed left and right play in the handle bar. Bars can be moved aprox 1/2 inch left or right before any steering input. Spyder now wonders . Took it to dealership, and after computer diog steering box, steering rods, tire pressure., tech advised all correct. Handle bars still have play and tech advice this is normal. Any one else experiencing this and is the tech correct. Thanks

STEERING

It sounds like the steering column shaft could be loose. If she drove it 700 miles and then noticed it, it is not normal.

:agree:.....This sounds FISHY.......My 14 RT has a minor amount of play, I don't think any vehicle made is " PLAY FREE " ....it would be dangerous.....However because of the way the wheels are aligned they should be " SELF CENTERING " to a degree. And it sounds like your wife's Spyder was doing just that until recently.Soooooooooooooo it sure sounds like something has changed !!!!!..........If the tech is saying it's all within spec. , did he really check it ???, Did they really road test it ????.......Have you tested it ?????...................Mike :thumbup:

Here, it does sound as if "trust but verify" is a good way to go.

The terms "that's normal" and "they all do it" are not good words to hear from your mechanic.

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

You may also want to test ride a new spyder (at that dealer) to make a comparison, since the mechanic says they all do it.

:agree::agree::agree:.......Good Advice Wy..........Mike :thumbup::thumbup:

My 2012 RS has a little play left and right but only when sitting still.... I don't notice any play in the steering when it's rolling.

Not sure why it has any play sitting still though, maybe it has something to do with the DPS? IDK. :dontknow:

update on handlebar issue

Issue resolved. Visited 2 Spyder dealers and tested 2 RSS and both have some movement in handlebars without engine running. Dealer tech did test all electrical and mechanical associated with steering and all to specifications. As I mentioned in the original post this is my wifes Spyder with 700 miles and issues arose after the first service. Issue of poor steering turned out to be over inflated front tires. Tech took responsibility for the error and apologies for the inconvenience. Some may say an apology is not enough, but wife is happy and that makes me happy. My 09 has been to this same shop many times with zero issues. 4th of July holiday this weekend, wife's 14 and my 09 going for long ride and camping. :yes:

:congrats: Glad to hear that this was a very easy fix, and that you both will be "Spinning and Grinning". :2thumbs:
