There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I'm thinking gettin half helmet to ride with. I have only used full helmet. Can anyone who rides with half give some advice on what to get. And how there helmet feels when riding

In the warm weather i like the half helmet.Feels free, wind in your face, see better, and hear better.Less protection, wear glasses so that trash or bug doesn't get your eyes.In cold weather i wear full face.If you use a com. system the half helmet make give to much wind noise.

I ride with a half helmet year round. I have tried several but prefer the Fulmer helmet. for the cold weather it has a zip in collar that protects your ears and neck. But when it gets down to the 20's & 30's I wear a Balaclava underneath.

My wife uses a Scorpion half helmet but it doesn't have the ear protection that the Fulmer does. So she wears a hoodie underneath on cold days.

We both have Scala communications devices that fit in and on the half hemets. You just need two way tape to mount to the side of the helmet.

I just feel too restricted in a full face helmet and haven't worn one of those in forty years.

Shoei St Cruz, its a great helmet and made by one of the best companies period. Cost here in Canada was about 200 dollars. Its quite light and the zip off ear protection works great for those very windy and rainy days.

I ride with a 3/4 Helmet, Its realy a half but with a ''drop down face shield'' in the warmer weather or for very short rides in the winter, Any ride over a few miles in the winter it's always a full face helmet.
I did almost 600 miles in the last week, With temps in the low teens, Never would i have been able to do that without a full face helmet on.

i've always wore a half helmet. the full face is too heavy and claustophobic for me. i have the scorpion exo-100 with the pull down half visor and removeable ear/neck wrap

I too ride most of the seaon with a half helmet, would highly recomend you consider a helmet with the sun visor. I've had both types, but really prefer one with the visor for those times when your riding into the sun at dusk or early morning.

I have a full-face modular helmet and a half-helmet. I like the half-helmet especially in the summer. I've had others but the thing I like about this one is a drop-down sun visor. Even with glasses on my eyes get really dry. The sun visor helps that in addition to providing glare protection.

If you get one, make sure you get a good fit. At highway speed, the wind can catch the front and will try to push it off your head.

Try on a HJC IS 33. It has most of the benefits of both the half and full face helmets - ie. cooler in summer, better bug and wind noise protection,, face shield with internal drop down adjustable sun shield and retails for 144. My wife and i both wear these and find them effective for comfort and noise free for our Sena smh 10 comm system

I have three half helmets and one 3/4. One of the half helmets has a pull down sun shield and the Air Force helmet has a snap on full face sun shield. The spider helmet doesn't have a shield. All three are comfortable. I do wear ear plugs with the half helmets to cut down on the wind noise.

Lazy..!!

Have used both. Have lived in all types of weather and as mentioned above they have advantages and disadvantages. Many time I would be caught in fast weather changes wishing I had the other helmet. Got lazy and now use a modular HJC open in town and heat and closed on freeways and cold. But thats just me. HJC makes a very good mid priced helmet...

I too had a HJC IS-33 which I just sold on Craigs List for $40 Since its Produced in 2009 its Now going into its 5TH year of shelf life?
Check the date on yours. I replaced it with a Bell Mag 9 Silver and Black Rally which is very similar but produced in 2012.

The New HJC (Review Above) is the FG Jet model, basically a New IS-33 with a Fiberglass Shell!!!:2thumbs:

During the colder months I wear a full face modular ( Shoie Neotech )

However, I prefer the half helmet, and my wife and I both like the Bell Pit Boss. One of the features we like is it's adjustability.

Not much comment from me here. Buy the best you can on the half helmet--from a safety standpoint.

I can understand the reasons for wearing them, hot weather etc.

The Nolan N 43 is currently as far as I feel comfortable with--chin guard removed. I have three full face and two of the N 43's for our use.

Helmets are another very personal decision when it comes to riding gear.

:opps:Local Statutes prevent me from riding around with too much of my face hanging out; it scares little kids and big dogs...
But I do know that you've got to make sure that you get one that fits properly!

Here's what I'm normally allowed out into public with...IMAG0023.jpg

we have full size full face and 3/4 size and 1/2 helmets . and by far prefer the half helmets.. they are very comfortable and are nice when the weather is real warm.. we even use a wireless comm system installed on them.. they make half helmet adapter kits for wireless they even come with ear covers so you dont have that much noise the kit has everything.. we bot extra mounts for our full faced helmets and simply move the unit from helmet to helmet...as for what kind, you need to try them on they are all different..we have HJC helmets and love them for comfort and fit...make sure you get dot approved helmets unless they are for show only...

Seriously I have a GMax Full Face and a 1/2. I prefer the 1/2, but on the highway you really get a ton of wind in your face.

When I'm with my Harley buddies I have to admit that I occasionally go bandanna or Schampa only.:doorag: (it's legal in Illinois althought not much else is...)

Helmet opinions

You really could have asked "about loving your Mother in Law" and made it easier on yourself. lOL:yikes:

i have been wearing a helmet ( s ), since it was not fashionable or considered cool. I find my preferences to be a full coverage helmet for trips, rain, cold weather. (A full coverage helmet is one that when it is on your leaves your full face open). Both of us wear eye glasses and find full coverage helmets to be to confining for our use.

Our full ace helmets were manufactured by Arthur Fullmer with the clear face shield and separate built in drop down sun shades and vents.

i have a Vega Transit 3/4 with a built in shield that can be raised or swap color shields that I am beginning to love more an mor

We both have the same half shell style helmets that have a zip out neck and ear attempt to warm you when it is cool out device that came with them.

Wind noise on the full helmets is minimal. On the 3/4 it maybe a few DB higher. On the half shells it is there for sure. But the half's are cooler and colder then the others

Fit is really up to you, to loose they will move around in the wind or when you twist, turn or bend, to tight will hurt your ears and give you a headache in a matter of minutes to hours.

hope this helps you out some!

It is a personal choice but for me it is a Fulmer when I am in a helmet state. It is light, small, and DOT approved. Most of all it fits my head perfectly. Something that you may not think about till it is to late is how the straps feel on your ears and chin. I had one that just buged my ears so bad I did not wear it any more.
