Gun Question....

retread

New member
I recently had to sell a handgun, mostly because my left hand was kinda reattached back in 1968, and I lost half the motor function in it. Anyway, the gun's slide was always stiff, so it's gone.
I'm looking at a Beretta PX-4 Storm, in .40 S&W, does anyone have any experience with this model?
Thanks for any help,

john

I don't have that specific model but I've found that the springs in most compact handguns are pretty stiff. The best one I've tried was a PK380 from Walther. The 9s and 45s are all stiff for one hand operation. Maybe it's time for a good revolver with speedloaders or moonclips for faster reloads.

Just a thought. Good luck with your search.

I have tried quite a few compacts, and some sub-compacts, and found 2 that I can use without problems, a Glock 23, and the Beretta PX-4 Storm, of the 2, the Beretta fits better. I've had Berettas prior to this, and liked them, but don't know anything about the PX-4. Primary reason for going with the .40 cal is, I've got LOTS of ammunition for one.
Thanks for your reply.

Oh, my Gawd! we're talking about selling and buying guns?? Pistols at that?? Be careful, very very careful! The gun topic police will write nasty posts to you!

Can you grasp the sidearm in your left hand, and use your right hand for racking the slide? :dontknow:
I can, but my left hand isn't steady enough to hit the broad side of a barn from inside, and getting it back into my right hand may just take too long, if you know what I mean.

That's an issue to be dealt with by practicing!
(With an unloaded gun... nojoke)

Increased Situational awareness will also allow you to be able to react faster. This will get you the needed time.

Trigger pull

Hard to beat a double action revolver. Squeeze, bang. No racking, safety levers, wasted motion.

The problem with wheelguns, often comes when trying to find a concealable rig for them.
Their cylinders make them tough to hide!

Okay, thanks for the input, I got some answers from various sources; the folks here, folks on another site, and a good friend who is a gunsmith. The model I'm getting will be a PX4 Storm Compact, which is small enough to carry easily, big enough to hang on to, and, for me has really good slide action. Thanks again,

john

Not much into handguns any more but I did have a Baretta PX4 in 9mm. This particular gun would not run unless it was really "wet". Very accurate, easy to field strip but would not cycle consistantly unless is was wet. It just wasn't reliable enough for me as a carry weapon. Sold it to a friend of mine who really enjoys it. I switched to 1911's mainly because of trigger pull. You should check out the Springfield XD-S......

I have many guns. I carry a AMT 45 DOA Backup. If I need more ammo I would carry my PX4 Storm. It is DOA for safe trigger control. It is very accurate. But, I would suggest the double action revolver because of ease of control and ease of reloads. Plus, they very rarely jam. Some autos are fussy as to how tight a grip you use. If you can master it, the PX4 is a very good choice.

The gun I just sold is a Springfield XD compact, put over 2000 rounds through it, tried many different lubes, sent to factory twice. I loved that gun, and the way it shot, but I needed a vise to hold it so I could rack the slide.
