There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Growing Old with my Spyder - When to replace parts

Yes I am getting old, but that is not the main topic. A wise motorcycle mechanic once said to me you grow old with your bike and adjust to changes in the bike as it gets older, such as tires, brakes, etc etc. I have 41,000+ miles on my 2015 RTS and wondering what the life expectancy of things like the shocks are. As the mechanic said I may have made adjustments to my riding style to accommodate aging parts. I would say the Spyder bottoms out every once and a while when hitting a deeper hole than it should be. This is occasional and really the only time it bottoms out.

So what say yea all

After a while: we all start looking as if we shopped in the used-parts stores for ourselves! :D

My prospective

I too have also recently started wondering the same thing...I said to my lady companion "when I scare myself twice, the Spyder will be gone" So we bought a new Jeep Wranger JL to start preparing for that day...The Jeep makes an excellent vehicle for exploring the many state parks & mountains with gravel & dirt roads that we cannot Spyder ride on...Plus when it rains we just put the hard tops back in and turn on the wipers and drive on for the day...I LOVE exploring...The dog gets to go every time...In the winter I put on the studded tires, turn on the heater and keep riding...

Did I forget to mention there are more frackels for the Jeep than our Spyders??? Spent close to $$$$ so far and I'm not done yet...

I would also like to hear from our real high mileage riders on this subject. Those of you with over 100,000 miles on the Spyder. Did the shocks deteriorate? Did the calipers get gummed up. Did wires switches, cables wear out? What were your long term wear items?

 That's why I sold mine: I no longer felt capable of being a safe-enough rider.

A good question. Let's hear from some of you higher mileage riders.

I have reached 36,500 on my 2010 before trade off--so I don't count.

The current :spyder:'s have 30K and 32K. I did plugs and brakes on both. Still have the other stuff. Tires get replaced usually at 20K for the fronts and about 15K for the rears.

My 2 cents worth

I have had several 100K + motorcycles since the late 1970's
and have found that at around 80 or so you should start to replace most rubber items
hoses, fuel lines, maybe check brake lines, I am a maintenance freak so I check stuff often
Tires for sure, if on 2 wheels ... fork seals... Spyder would be shocks, drive belt and sprockets,
battery and cables, replace ALL fluids, plugs and wires.
If you do all that you can get another 100K out of it, AND ALSO change oil and filters when recomended
remember .... OIL IS CHEAPER THAN METAL.
Ride safe
