• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Group ryde signals

Scotty and Sny have some of the best advice. Keep it simple. Review with the group before riding off.

Even when I rode with a group where signals were supposed to be passed back--there were always some that ignored that suggestion.
Ignored it, didn't notice it, or just didn't feel comfortable doing it.

It's OK if a few people don't relay it, you should be able to see a few bikes ahead.

Afterwards you just gently remind them about relaying hand signals and find all that patience you've been storing away for this group ride.

I always go over the spacing rules and stagger & single-file rules.

Also one point I always bring-up is to remind people not to fixate on the bike in front of you. You should remain aware of it and what it is doing but pay more attention to the road you are riding.

If you fixate on the bike in front of you and they go into the ditch... nine-times out of ten you'll follow them right into the ditch just like you were drawn into it. There are endless videos on YouTube showing this phenomenon. This just happened this weekend on a rally-ride I was leading -- despite my making this point verbally to the group twice.

Just goes to show that despite what you are saying at the pre-ride meetings... some people simply do not listen. I suppose flight-attendants know that feeling. :banghead:

Oh yeah... both riders are okay, just really sore. One of the two bikes isn't though. Don't know if it is going to be totaled or not.

Your post of the hand signals came with great timing. Keep getting encouraged to organize a group ride/ get together for young riders in our church. These are young guys relatively new to motorcycling, mainly solo riders, therefore some education as to group ride safety and hand signals may be needed. Thanks again.

Find a local GWRRA group in your area and ask if they have any road captain instructors who could do a road captain or team riding course. Usually no charge if you can supply the space
