• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Groaning in reverse

Hi all you knowledgeable and helpful people -:D

My Spyder has just started "groaning" in reverse. Even with the engine off, in neutral, if you roll it backwards it makes a groaning noise. Quiet when rolling forward. Only done 8,000 km. Any ideas??

Mine used to do that but it was only in humid weather. The more I'd ride it fast and jam on the breaks seemed to stop all squealing and groaning.

Mine does the same thing but also does it going forward. I'm sure it is related to parking brake in some fashion. ATV's with parking brakes have similar problems that's why many remove them.....

Does it stop if you touch the brakes? If so, it may be the pads. That happened to mine. Not much the dealer could do. Doesn't do it all the time, though...

Mine does the same thing occasionally. I just attribute it to a tight belt or minor brake rubbing. My Spyder has been running very good otherwise so I haven't looked into it further.

I have this problem often. Rear brake - absolutely...confirmed by dealer. It is often worse when you turn. Thoroughly cleaning the rotor and brake and padding the back of the brake pads with CRC Disk Brake Quiet (gel, not spray), or using an alternate padding method as described in another thread may help. Adjusting the parking brake may help. Changing to the new type pads may help on an older Spyder, as might modifying the pads before installation, especially beveling the edges as described in the link above. Problem is worse with humidity. My dealer has noted it, but has no other solution than the ones outlined by BRP in their service bulletins...and is not sure of the viability of that.

Its the parking break. I just had new brakes put on. Pirate Powersports who does my servicing of my spyder said he would adjust it for me when I am there this saturday coming up, he said its common.

Mine does the same thing,my rear pad are allmost worn out.The outside pad good and the inside pad not so much.

Same here, even have the new pads on and I think it got worse. There is no doubt rubbing going on. It is worse when I come back from a weekend at the beach, assume it is the salt in the air. I just have not found the time to sit down and tear it down and do the CRC fix just yet.

Final Drive Belt?

Mine was doing this as well, and I suspected the belt tension was too high. I did not have anything to check the tension with, but it felt very taut to the touch. When the dealer tech checked the tension, he confirmed that it was too tight. He loosened it a bit, and the groaning stopped. This is something you may want to check. :dontknow:
