• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Gremlins in my radio

I have the oem radio, communication harness and CB radio. At times the radio, iPod, CB, AM/FM radio dont function properly. I listen almost exclusively to my iPod and after riding for a short while or on an hours long trip the sound shuts off and is replaced by a buzzing/hissing sound and the the music comes back on again. This interruption in the music gets more frequent until the music stops altogether and the buzzing/hissing becomes continuous and is heared on all modalities, AM/FM, CB, weather channel, but the radar detector and GPS sounds are loud and clear. When this happens I pull over shut off the engine, let the computer go through its dog and pony show and turn the key back on and start the engine and the problem goes away for days, or just for a few miles and then starts all over again, intermittently at first and then eventually becomes totally buzzing/hissing until I turn the bike off completely and restart it from scratch. Just turning the key off and back on again does not solve the problem and the buzzing/hissing continues until complete shutdown/restart.:banghead: I have turned off the CB, shut down the voice activated intercom thinking that might pe the problem, but it makes no difference.
There is nothing wrong with my iPod, it plays for hours without a hitch when played alone or plugged into the car radio's Aux port.
Help.
thanks
Andy

It isn't this

Andy it's not the JBl's , because I have had mine running for about 10,000 miles and I have had no issues with them........Someone here with more knowledge about the radio will chime in......good luck.....Mike

It sounds as if you've got a wire that isn't quite plugged in fully, or has a bare spot...
My 2010 RT would do that with my I-Pod, and it turned out to be a chunk of the harness had a nick in it that would ground out against the frame every once in a while.

OH Mighty Thor , protector of Valhalla and giver of electrical advice to us mortals!! I think you are right. Early in my attempts to hook up the iPod and GPS and radar detector I had opened up the harness for the iPod to DIN plug in the trunk and used a fine pointed probe on the multimeter to identify the wires in the bundle. The ground wire is naked and it has a foil outer cover [for RF insulation?] and I suspect this may be the culprit. I put electrical tape around each wire that has a hole and covered the bare ground wire. Wont know until I use the bike again next week. If that doesnt fix it then I will have a loooong sleuthing process ahead of me.
Thanks
Andy
