• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Good morning all,

New member to the forums, located in the beautiful suburbs of picturesque Baltimore, MD (tongue in cheek).

I am the proud owner of a new 2012 RT Limited. The old lady and I love it! Its a blast to ride. I get a lot of looks, people pointing, and lots of great questions. I find many people like to initially poo-poo the idea of the Spyder, until they see it in person, and the tune changes dramatically. It really is an impressive piece of machinery.

I followed all the threads, posts and vids, from everyone at the Spyder event in Durango, and we can't wait to make the next one! We are really excited to make some trips on the bike and see some folks.

I have picked up a lot of great info from this site so far. I wanted to thank everyone for their posts, and the knowledge base here is really fantastic.

The first thing I did was order the heat shields from Spyderpops, as I could tell immediately the 'heat to feet' ratio was going to be an issue. I also pulled out all the underbelly plastics. So far its running awesome, and the heat is dispersing much more evenly. I can't wait to have these melted socks surgically removed from my ankles. :D

I bought the bike from a local dealer here in Baltimore, Pete's Cycle on Bel Air Road in Nottingham, shameless shout out to Greg, my sales guy. Great experience there. I did have a problem with the computer within the first week. We were riding about 60 miles from home, and the limp mode kicked on and every idiot light the dash posses kicked on. DPS, VSS, etc, etc,... The guys at Pete's took me in immediately (once I made it to the shop), checked everything over, flashed my BIOS (software upgrade) and had me back on the road same day. Its been perfect ever since, flawless. Thanks to Bryan in the service dept for helping me out so fast.

I think the next thing I need is the SmoothSpyder Tension-er. I get the 3500 RPM vibration I have seen others mention here. Tearing out plastics and installing the heat shields was fairly easy, not sure the tension-er is something I can do myself or not. I am probably an intermediate weekend grease monkey, at best. Any input from this forum group on personal experiences might be a good moral booster, haha!

I also plan to get some highway pegs, and have seen some good ideas on how to mount them here. I like that adjustable kit Lamonster demo'ed. Seems like a really good, low profile solution.

I have been pricing some rear arm rests for the old lady, she kind of wants a little more 'stability' on the back seat. I have seen the Corbin and the Diamond R series swing arms,...anyone have any input there on which ones to go with? Can the Corbin version be used with the factory seat, or do you need a Corbin aftermarket for them to integrate?

Thanks for being here, its a great community, and I look forward to talking with you all in the future.

Take care -Pete

Congrats to you on your new RT. They really are awesome. Good start with the Spyderpops, I have them too. I got the Diamond arm rests at SpyderFest. My GF loves the way they swing out of the way for easy mounting, I liked the price. Hope all your "shake-down" issues are resolved and you can......

Ride in comfort,

:welcome: . If my husband referred to me as his "old lady" I think I would use my Diamond R armrests to hit him over the head

:roflblack:....i have heard that before. Does it still count if the "old lady" is much younger than the old man? :opps:

It's a term of endearment.

It's a term of endearment. She just smiles, rolls her eyes, and dismisses me off as the ignoramus I am. Haha!

She's good people, and I have grown fond of her over the years, so I suppose its good she keeps me around. :D

...And thank you for the responses. Much appreciated. I am leaning in the direction of the Diamond R's, mostly because they can come off when I'm rydin' 1up.

:welcome: I'm from Illinois but at my daughters house in Columbia, MD right now. Welcome to Spyderlovers! I just moved up from an '09 GS to a RT-S last week. I only have 150 miles so far because I work out of town during the week but drooling to get it on the road. I also plan on getting the Spyderpops heat shields ASAP just waiting to see which ones I want first. My dealer, Jim Potts Motor Group, actually stocks and sells many of the Spyderlover sponsors products.

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new :spyder:. My wife perfers the Corbin arm rests and they do fit on the stock seat. She likes the look and requested them to be "studded" all the way around like a Harley.

:congrats::welcome::spyder2: ON. I would go with the Corbin arm rests as they do mount with the stock seat. The belt tensioner is a not to bad of an install. I mounted mine without removing any of the tupperware, although I did remove the belt guard a year latter to cut a piece of to get more tension on the tensioner .
