Butch and I decided to take one more weekend ride this time up to Duluth and the north shore of Lake Superior. When we left Saturday morning it was 30* and there was frost - just a nice brisk morning! We took some nice back roads up to Duluth, stopped at Aerostich to pick up a few things then went across Hwy 53 bridge to Superior, WI to look for a motel. We didn't find one to our liking (cheap!) so back to Minnesota we went and found a nice mom & pop motel - Lake Breeze - just up the Scenic Drive a few miles.

We went for some lunch to wait for the fog to lift a bit more - not because of riding just so that we could enjoy the scenery more. Rode up by Silver Bay to Palisade Head - one of the highest point along the north shore. The road up to it is awesome, twisty through the woods and rocks then you come out of the woods and you are on top of the world (well for MN anyways). Wish I would've gotten photos of that road, but my Drift camera had run out of battery by that time of the day - we are going to wire up a power outlet for it so this doesn't happen again

There wasn't much color left but every now and then you would get these little bright spots along the road. Even without the color this area is beautiful. Butch was happy, on the way home our route (Hwy 23, Vetrans Evergreen Memorial Hwy) parallels a railroad track and we were lucky enough to come upon this BNSF car hauler - this and seeing the ore boat in Silver Bay put the frosting on the cake for him!
By the time we got home the temp was 68* needless to say we were stripping off the cold weather gear the closer to home we got! I'm sure this isn't our last ride of the season just a great road trip on the Spyders up north. With right gear you get into your cocoon and can ride anywhere anytime! Thank goodness for heated vests!!! I've got keep going a while longer 'cause I'm withing a couple hundred miles of 1100!
