• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Belt guards don't work?

We had a belt guard on our Spyder, still on there actually. In 30,000mi of riding we had to replace one belt because of stone damage. Now, perhaps we may have had more stone damage without the guard, but I personally think it's luck of the draw. The belt guard is more like cheap insurance, you may need it, you may never need it. Meh, we just slow down a bit on gravel and not worry about it. I've ridden on chip seal, old pavement, down gravel driveways.
 
Just a general question about this: Do all Spyders after 2014 come with a belt guard? I ask because the one shown in the link only covers "all Spyders" thru 2014.

F3's aren't mentioned since they're a more recent model, but do they need a 3rd party belt guard as well?

But in any case, if you're handy with a sheet metal bender and tin snips, I think you can fabricate just about any year belt guard.
 
Belt guard

The first 2 years riding my '14 RT-S I picked up stones 3 times. All 3 times I was riding where fresh asphalt was being laid down. Those little stones are tar covered and very sticky. You can tell when you get one stuck in your belt. I was able to pull over and push my bike watching the sprocket. I saw the bump and with a screwdriver picked the stone out.
My original belt lasted 108,000 miles and it's failure wasn't caused by any stones, it just got tired.

I have been reading as much as I can for information on spyders and I am now concerned about driving one where I live. Most of the roads are gravel or dirt roads and I cannot afford to constantly replace the belts, what do you do to prevent this? Also, I read that you can swap the RS handle bars to RT and that will make it so you sit up straighter where do you the RT handle bars from? I know I will have more questions as I go but I appreciate all the people that have helped me so far.

After some looks I decided to have my local mechanic install it since I was brining it in anyway. Even the professional could not figure out how to install it.

I am holding on to the belt guard and will ask somebody else to try. There is another Spyder dealer about 80 miles away.

Often this is a problem for the " Professional " they either Can't or just Won't think out of the box. When you OWN something , and have a vested interest in it , makes a difference ..... Mike :thumbup:
 
BELT FINAL DRIVE MOTORCYCLES

I remember the 1st belt drive bike I owned was a 01 Yamaha Roadstar and I did worry about getting a rock caught in between the belt and pulley because I kept forgetting that I was on a street machine and not on one of my race bikes or dual sports. I always took it easy when going into a campground or some scenic area. Luckily I experienced no issues and always went slow enough to not kick up dust or stones. Like others have said, it's the "luck of the draw". I seem to have always kept it in my mind that "stupid is expensive" since I have always had to pay my own way. Actually, we kinda do! Not so much big bridges, but we have a slew of old concrete abutments that finally crumble badly enough for the road commission to notice and shut down (like when the holes are big enough to drop a kid through). For safety, they completely remove them, but then we never know when or IF they'll ever be replaced. There's one a few miles from here that's been out for a quarter century. There's one even closer on an important road that's been out since last Spring. That's when, if you REALLY have to get to the other side, you either hop on your ATV or saddle up your bravest horse! :D

The one for the RTs is indeed weird to put on. My husband and I gave up trying to position it so it didn't touch the belt. So we actually cut a tiny section off of it to give it a hair's breadth of clearance.

I have to admit that, as others have said, who knows how much, or if, the guard works. But, for me, it's simply a comfort to know that the big hole that BRP inexplicably leaves in the guard is now covered.

I can't imagine what would be too difficult for anyone with marginal tech skills to tackle;
