• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hi,

Was sitting here thinking about my GPS that is waiting for the mount that is on back order :gaah:. I purchased a Garmin 1450 ( not waterproof ), and have read the thread suggesting the use of ziplock bags and rubber bands. I had a thought, and not sure if it has been suggested previously, but I wrapped mine in Glad Press N Seal. Will this work, with my concern being heat/breathing of the device?:dontknow:

That looks like a winner to me!
I keep looking at another option... What if you throw a bluetooth-equipped GPS in the top trunk and throw an earbud in your helmet... would that work?

I use a Ram Mount Otter Box for my iphone and it works very well. I can use the controls of the touch phone through the rubber face with no problem and my phone has stayed dry. I am sure they have them for various GPS brands and sizes. Try GPCCity.com for a large selection.

garmin and heat

Not sure about the press and seal wrap. It will keep it dry but possible heat build up. My Garmin iQue 3600 always shuts down it I leave in on the dash or windshield mount in the sun. I purchased an antenna for it and now mount it between the seats. I'd go with the waterproof enclosures designed for the GPS. They have some opening for wires, mounting etc that would allow for some ventilation. My opinion.

Mounting iphone

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of mount to buy for an iPhone? Have an RT-S. Thanks!

At gpscity there is a ram mount compatable phone mount that has spring loaded claws on the top and adjustable pins on the sides. Hard to describe but can be seen in pics in my gallery. Super versatile and works with different phones AND phones in cases.

It's gonna get wet if you ride in the rain...even if the rain doesn't get to it, when you cover it, you're gonna get condensation build-up which will fry the insides sooner or later anyway...

Save up and get a Zumo...it's well worth the money...well made, great customer service, and you'll love it...

I don't want to be wet blanket (no pun intended), but the only thing I can think of is the old maxim, you get what you pay for. If I went this route, I would first be sure that I felt my GPS was expendable. There are no second chances when electronic equipment gets wet. If you can afford the risk, I'd do the ZipLoc bags. They are clear, making the screen far more visible, and they allow use of the touch screen through them. Use the heavier storage or freezer variety, rather than sandwich bags. The bags do cause reflections when the sun shines, that make the screen hard to see. The Press N Seal will probably do the same. Best of luck!
