• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. GPS for Spyder

TOMTOM.......
But we all have our preferences... The world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things.

I think any of the Garmin 450/550 or 660 would be fine on the Spyder, they are all motorcycle friendly. If you're not worried about it being waterproof there are some really good deals out there in the Garmin line. I wound up with a 7200 Stree Pilot that has a 7" screen for under $300.00 It,s almost too big but it is easy to read going down the road.

The TomTom is also a good unit I hear but have not used one.

I loved the size and detail of my iway 500 and 600.

Problem was they quit making them and for a good reason, they just didn't hold up worth a darn. This is what happend to my last iway.:gaah:

If I could of waited for the Garmin 660 that's what I would have bought. It has a 4.3" screen and is made for a motorcycle. My problem was they held up shipment of my unit till the end of June and I'm taking off for the west coast on the 22nd. Good luck with your quest, I won't leave home without a GPS, I love riding with them. :doorag:

The Zumo 550 is nice, especially if you have bluetooth in your helmet. I like hearing the driving instructions and when just cruising around I listen to mp3's on the SD card. I also have the Scala Rider Q2 and while I wish it was stereo, I enjoy everything being wireless.

Thanks for the help, ai am going to look at both the Garmin and the Tom Tom. I have a Garmin in my vehicle and it has been real good.

Thanks

garmin zumo 550, IMHO...the price doesn't drop as it's still very highly regarded and proven...waterproof...awesome product!

garmin 765t

Anybody using a garmin 765t? Seems to have everything that the zumo 550 and 660 has except its not waterproof. Prices are coming down so I'm seriously looking at one of those. Appreciate any feedback.

The "not waterproof" bit would be a deal breaker for me. Every GPS I have ever owned has been waterproof, and they have all been soaked at some point during a tour. I guess some riders will cover a non-waterproof GPS or store it while riding through rain, but I don't want to be bothered with having to take extraordinary measures - I just want to use the thing at all times.

I just purchased a Garmin 760... it's not waterproof, but there is a company that makes a waterproof box and RAM mount for most of the Nuvi models

My navi cost $69 at radioshack ( Navcam). Worked brilliantly on trips to NY, NJ and DC. Not waterproofed but used a black tape around it and silicone on inside screen. Some rain no probs...loads of rain ...not tried. Have been using it since last summer.

how did you mount it to your spyder

That'll be happening on Friday after work. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow and I have school on Wed and Thur nights... so Friday will be my install day. I did not purchase the waterproof box as I will need to be able to charge the GPS as I ride. The battery is only good for 4 - 5 hours, our days will be longer than that on our cross-country trip. It'll be tucked under the windshield, so I don't anticipate much issues if we get a little trickle of rain. I couldn't afford the waterproof 550. I paid $200 for the 760.
