GPS Bar Mount

Garmin makes a good U bolt mount for the Zumo 550. Would fit right on the handle bar.:chat: I had used it on my previous motorcycle. I was going to mount it on the throttle side where the plastic sleeve is between the throttle and the main steering. I was wondering if anyone has used this mount and how did they remove the plastic sleeve? I did not want to remove the throttle, hand grips etc seems like over kill.

I used a box cutter. I wasn't trying to save it.

I removed it carefuly with a hack saw and needle nose pliers,it seemed to work for me.:2thumbs:

If in the future you are going to install NMM 3 or 4 inch risers, you may wish to save about 1.5 - 2 inches of bar length when cutting the old bar.. Rather than cutting flush to the riser, leave 1.5-2 inches or more, your choice , to use as mounting stuff using the Ram-Mount system.

Garmin mount

I have the Garmin 450. I replaced the U-bolt with a two hole flat mount. Then I mounted it to the buttom support of the left side mirror with two nuts and bolts. Be sure to use the buttom support, the top contains the wiring.

Another good option if you are going to put the risers on is Ram B 201 double socket arm connected to a ram B 252 base with a 1" ball. The base connects to the inside end of the riser. The other end of the socket arm connects to your GPS mount. Works great. NMN as these parts. I have one on both risers. GPS on one and other not used yet but could be cup holder, ipod mount etc.

I saved the plastic sleeve by just sliding inside the handlebar cover, but I already had it off. The throttle is real easy to loosen and slide off. Just remove the rubber stopper in the bar end and loosen two screws in the throttle housing.

If you have the choice between the 90° mount and the 45° mount, get the 90°. I think they work and look better. I got one of each and definitely prefer the 90° mount.

Like others, I used a box cutter. The plastic is not that hard and easy to cut.

Magic only had one 90 when my risers were installed at Americade. So, I had them put a 45 on also. Magic had to grind the cap that goes over the riser bolt that holds the RAM mount in place; that right there was a pain. But, with a 45 you can't get as much positioning of the RAM mount as with a 90. I agree 90's are much better.

Magic only had one 90 when my risers were installed at Americade. So, I had them put a 45 on also. Magic had to grind the cap that goes over the riser bolt that holds the RAM mount in place; that right there was a pain. But, with a 45 you can't get as much positioning of the RAM mount as with a 90. I agree 90's are much better.

I put on the 90's. Works just fine and I didn't have to grind the caps. Just a dab of silicone and all is well so far:thumbup:
