• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I bought a 1954 Hank Aaron card back 30 years ago. I decided to get it PSA certified recently. They said the edges had been shaved and they don't certify altered cards. That really sucks. I guess its worthless. :banghead:

There seems to be a lot of BS in the card trading arena. Lot's of crooks out there. You just never know--unless your an expert up front. Caveat Emptor.

Maybe not. Don't throw it away just yet.

IF.....that is the only "defect" and the card is otherwise authentic, it might be worth more than you think.

Have you contacted any other "experts" ?

Why would someone "shave the edges" of a trading card.......other than to make it fit into some kind of display holder ??

You didn't say how much you paid for it. How do you figure you got 'scewed' (sic)?

I paid $25 for it. Does not sound like much, but it was in 1975 and when you are 15 years old it feels like $2,500.

Cards like this that are not doctored are worth a ton today.

$25.00 bucks for it, and you've owned it for 42 years...
That's less than 60 cents per year, and you had the pleasure and satisfaction of owning it! :firstplace:

This is why several of us are saying that you should not give up so easily.

Have you watched the "Antiques Road Show" much ?
While card collectors might be especially anal and obsessive-compulsive about "modifications", antiques in general only lose a portion of their "pristine" value when they are modified.
Your card might still be worth a "half a ton".

Good luck.

Well, I am not sure if it has any value. I will likely be selling my collection in five years and I will go through a broker that runs auctions. I will explain to the broker what happened. Since it is an authentic card someone will likely still want it not for investment, but for personal satisfaction of owning a piece of history.
