Got my wife on the RT for the first time!

Hey Lamont,
I too made that wonderful mistake of inviting my wife to take a ride with me. Um... that was about 20 years ago. That wonderful but solemn mistake has cost me a freakin' fortune.

At the time, were two up on a BMW K1100LT, that led to buying her a K75 RT, then two new R1100 RT's. We then took about a 12 year sebatical from motorcycle cruisin' to sailing the Caribbean. Thank God I only had to buy one boat for that!!!

Now the "Coup de Grace". About 6 months ago, we decided to go cycle touring again... Yep... You guessed it.... Two...not One but Two RT's sitting in our driveway.. "Ouch!"

Be careful what you ask for!! Len

Note: We'll be seeing you one of these days, you may remember that my home town is Greeneville...."Where the sun shines on the roof and the moon shines in the basement!!!":ohyea:

:congrats: 2 in the driveway!!!! You'll have to move the boat so they fit in the garage!:roflblack: Sounds like a case of :shemademe_smilie: !! Sounds like she knows how to get what she wants also.

Wife on RT

Hey Lamont. It looks like you and I married the same woman. I used to have a Honda 550-Four when we were dating. Then, in '04, I got a Harley Sportster and my wife would not get near it, let alone ride on it. Next, in '07 I got a BMW k1200GT and she got on it once and only once. When I got the RT in March of '10, I had to coax her to get on but once she did, she said it was the most comfortable motorcycle that she had ever been on. Lately, she has even asked me to take her to dinner on the Spyder.

I felt so secure that I invited her to join me at The Dragon next week. She agreed but I have to trailer the Spyder down to Robbinsville, NC, stopping by my daughter's place in Cinci. I had to sweeten the pot by promising that we could spend a day in Cinci visiting our 1yr old grandson and then continue on to the Dragon. I think we will try the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshine 28 and a few others.

We will be there May 13 - 16. Any chance you can join us and show us where the good rides are? You can email me at
[email protected] if we don't want to clog-up this forum.

That is really great news :2thumbs:
:congrats: :ohyea::ohyea::ohyea:

I too didn't like the feel or the safety as a passenger on a 2-wheel :(,

Now look at me, I am a driver on my own now :D

So I'm mowing my lawn and my wife calls, she's asked what I'm doing. I tell her I'm mowing and she says lets go out to dinner on the RT. :D Just got back. I think the hook is set. :ohyea:

Lamont,

That's outstanding news! As I've mentioned, the desire to share this experience with my wife led me to sell the Army Spyder and replace it with the RT. This machine has been a game changer for us as well. My travel schedule has been too hectic to allow for any long trips, but she's been excited about the rides we've taken to the point that she had me take a friend of hers out for a quick spin so that she could understand what Kat was talking about.
I took the RT out for a solo ride when the BRP demo truck came to South Texas Suzuki last fall, and frankly, couldn't picture myself having one, especially given the fun I was having with the RS. That decision reversed in a hurry when Kat rode the RT with me and pronounced it comfortable for her. I couldn't be happier, both for my experience, and to discover that the shared ride is a common vision/prayer for many in the forum. Godspeed to all the RT couples on your shared adventures!

That is wonderful news Lamont! This could open up a whole new chapter in your life story together. :congrats:

Lamont, that is such great news. I'm really happy for you. The only thing that's better than riding solo is riding with your wife. Hope you two enjoy many, many miles together.

Best Wishes for both of you. My Wife rode on a Harley K model when we were going togeather, then several Hondas, 305 Dream, 350, 360's, USAF moving around. Then I bought a Honda 750, ST1100 which she would not ride on. The same with 08 RS. I bourght a RT yesterday so I still have hope.

:congrats: Having my wife with me enhances the experience for me. An intercom system for easy talk, makes big difference.

:2thumbs: Reel her in slowly . .. that's the catch of the day!
let us know how it goes

Lamont,
So glad to hear this. I know having Chris ride with you is part of the reason you even got a spyder to begin with. When the RS didn't work that way, I know you have had high hopes for the RT. You've got a winner!! I am so glad for you both. Enjoy and I think you are about to have a great summer.

hi everyone...sorry if this is not the correct space to post this. i'm a soon to be new owner of a rts 2011. my wife in fact will be the rider for the time being as i am under a medical suspension due to hip issues. i for the first time in a long (50+ years) riding career will be the passenger. this time however, i will be very comfortable ...well, to be honest...as comfortable as a primary rider can be. my wife sue has been a long time goldwing rider so she has a lot of experience and more importantly..patience!

in fact she was the one who initially got me statrted on the path to spyder ownership and it was she who asked nearly all the questions:chat: of the dealer here in toronto. i just sat back and let it happen. she even stated the saddle was the most comfortable (other than our corbin units) she has ever sat upon.:2thumbs: sooo...i'm very happy to have found this forum and group and both sue and i look forward to meeting you all one day.

Doesn't it seem to early for the 2011's RT's to hit the market? The release dates of the 2010's in late Dec and early Jan, shortened that appropriate phrase, new model, by several months. Just 3 months and days of ownership and I already have to remove that terminology from my description and refer to it as last years model! How about us older model RT owners? :p
