got my first thumbs down with the F3

went for a nice ride yesterday with my husband. He usually follows me and likes to watch other people notice the F3. Mostly it's been positive, but yesterday he saw his first "thumbs down" wave. It's certainly not my first on a Spyder, but even though he's heard me say I got one (or more), he's never actually witnessed it. I think it kind of shocked him because he was still talking about it today. People are funny.

To quote someone else on this forum -- I don't give a rat's @ss what other people think about me or my ride. I think it's funny when it happens. My husband is a nicer person than I am, so I think it shocked him that someone would do that. He'll get over it.

It's really easy.

If you like the persons ride, complement them!

If you don't like their ride. Wave and keep your mouth shut.

If they are happy with their ride, why try to mess up their day? There is plenty of grief in this old world. Let people enjoy themselves. And hopefully, they will let you enjoy yourself in the same way.

It's not about the bike/trike. Sadly there are those that feel it is. I know he will get over it but understand him. They have places for people like that. Bike shows...vote, like, dislike your choice. But better not wave than thumbs down when you don't know the person. Jmo:banghead:

Love it when some ape hanging riders go by and give me thumbs down. It's all to each his own. If they would not be caught dead on our Spyder, the feeling is mutual about the ape hanging bike. They may feel tough today, but one day they will humble themselves to the fact that tough is only for a moment in time. Ride Safe, Ride Long.

SMH...the other day

I passed some young guys on crotch rockets. They just looked, no wave or nod. As I rode into my driveway they rode up and just looked at me. The lead guy then pops a wheelie and takes off. During my trip home with my :spyder2: we had 3 out of 5 riders wave. Well I'm not riding to please or get approval! If they wave great, if not oh well!

You mentioned it before, people have a different reaction to the F3, I have noticed the same thing. The main difference is people who know bikes and vehicles are looking it over and are surprised and impressed. They ask better/precise questions and point out things that they like. That is a real change from the majority of people that looked at my GS or ST-S and had the usual questions or comments. I have even noticed that ( other model ) Spyder riders talk about the F3 differently.

I really agree with what BajaRon wrote above. Waving to another rider is ( to me ) a common courtesy, an acknowledgment of a shared perspective or experience. A thumbs down indicates that the rider does understand the difference between opinions and courtesy. That is their problem, Life is pretty good at giving that lesson over and over again until it is learned - for some tools, it takes decades.

I haven't got a thumb down yet. I've gotten many unreturned acknowledgements but I've gotten way, way more unsolicited waves from bikers and actual thumbs up from people in cars and walking along the street.

I don't care what they think. If you don't want to wave back at me, that's your problem. I was once on a two wheel bike and paid a price that most of the bad @$$ guys never have! And yet I'm still back out there. I just keep ryding along with a smile that they never seem to have.

I wave at scooters too. It kind of shocks them at first - they don't know what to do. Hopefully, it makes their day.

I love my spyder, I think its cool, and specially here in Slovakia, its kind of "bike" that is unique.
All it matters is that I feel safe because of 3 wheels, I feel great because of speed and torque, and I feel unique.. and if there is anyone who give thumbs down for F3, well,,, either he is blind, or he cannot afford it so he desides to rather hate it ))

Whatever I've ridden I've always found a proportion of riders who don't respond or respond 'negatively' to any greeting. It must really get on their nerves every time another rider greets them so just think of your wave as sweet revenge

Oh, I've had it happen often enough that it really does make me laugh. I was wearing my half helmet so I'm sure he saw my big grin and laughter and I made sure I gave him a big friendly wave back. He was the leader of a group, so who knows what kind of conversations happened between them when they stopped their ride. Hope his friends gave him grief, but... if they're all riding together maybe not.

i can't understand why there are some people out there that just like to make others feel bad or down on spite. i have friends that have bikes that i don't like and would never own, but if he or she bought it than they liked it and i say congrats and enjoy. there will always be haters out there
