I recently bought a set of Elka 1+R shocks from a fellow rider on this forum. Was told they were setup for a 250lb rider but not what sort of riding (for the rebound settings).
I'm 200lb with all my gear on. I am what they call a recreational rider for rebound settings
Today I called the factory in Boucherville, QC where they were made. Spoke to a very helpful guy who spent time sorting me out.
He asked for the #s painted on the springs as well as the serial # stamped into the top of the rear shock. Turns out they will all be OK for me.
Said to adjust the preload on the front ones to 9" spring length & rebound to 24 clicks from the full left position. The rear ones to 8 3/4" overall spring length (there are 2 springs on my rear one) & 18 clicks rebound from the fully counter clockwise direction. Said to make sure I put them in the correct way up (rebound adjusters on the bottom)
I feel much happier now with the official factory help & will have to get round to installing them.
The shorter upper spring on the rear shock is of a suitable rate for my weight so that sharp road irregularities (not potholes) should be suitably smoothed out. We'll see.
