Got Caught in the Steering stuff.

effgjamis

Ride Forrest Ride!
Two weeks agon my dealer said that he was going to order a new DPS to correct some steering faults that I have been having.
Got a call yesterday, thursday, that the part has arrived and if I would bring the spyder in they would install the new DPS and it would take 3-4 hrs maybe 5 at most. I agreed to take it to them at 10 AM Today Friday.
Well, about 12:30 the dealer called and said they ran into a small glitch. The DPS they received was non-functional. So, they have to get another from BRP and BRP would ship overnight the replacement DPS. Well Come to find out, BRP has no stock, and are awaiting for the Manufacture to ship the new DPS, which is scheduled to arrive at BRP Monday or Tuesday, but BRP cannot ship overnight if they received the parts after 3 PM any day. What is overnight that I do not understand. Fri, Sat, Sun Mon, Tue, and ?? Wed ???. I guess Canada has a different way of couting than we do. Oh Well.. Maybe repaired by Wed, Thur, Fir, Sat, Sun or this time next year:joke:. A little joke here.:joke:

Needless to say, I believe the Dealer is doing his best and seems very sincere in his effort to resolve the part issue, and has offered to have me rent a small car, or if I were to borrow one, for mileage and/or Gasoline while the Spyder is in the shop.. WOW That is super and I commend Central Florida Powersport, Kissimmee, Fl for their customer concern. WOW WOW..

So, I will wait until I get a call that the spyder is ready, hopefully sooner than later.

I will follow up as progress is in the making.

Sorry to hear that, Forrest. Hope everything works out OK in the long run. :gaah:

That's not an ant... it's my spIder. Only one I have, now. :D

I'll get you a new screen right after I re-start the Side-Kick manufacturing line. How's that?

Sorry to hear you got caught up in the parts shortage as well. There are a few others on here who have posted the same thing within the last few days. It does sound like the dealer is doing their best to take care of you, and that says a whole lot for them.

When I first saw that spider I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't a real one crawling on my screen as well. :D

My 2 cents.

My spyder has been in the shop now for over 3 weeks for steering issues, New DPS and complete power steering unit.
After some testing it was confirmed that the DPS did not agree with update # 2 and the power steering unit was bunk...
At first it was parts will be in in a coupe of days, than it was next week and now it looks like monday.

I dont blame the service guys at the dealerships, more than likely the parts are being built right now, because in the first place they were probably garbage.... so BRP is getting them manufactured somewhere else.
My thoughts are there probably made in china so it might explain the increase in faulty DPS's and PS units.

So I continue to wait and wait and wait. I think about it now, I can drive to quebec, pick up the parts drive back and have them at my dealer the same or next day
(if the parts are actually there).... Now thats what I call overnight shipping:2thumbs: !!!

So I wait for BRP parts and I wait, and wait and wait.:yikes:

 I would feel better after 5 weeks of waiting if all you guys were not in the same boat. Looks like my chances of getting the DPS unit soon are grim with so many waiting on one and a short supply.

I have also had 2 bad DPS units shipped to my dealer. This is a real drag. :(

AM I pissed about waiting for parts....... YA !!

I missed out on a few last rides all because i brought my spyder in for steering related crap. But I look at it now and it's better to be fixed than for me to be steered into a semi or a tree .................besides it's -12 and 5 inches of snow and winter is coming in full force now. So no more riding till March for me...... unless of course global warming comes into to save me and let me ride for a few days...:gaah: LMAO

Best of luck with the whole global warming thing, there is now a research article out stating we are hurtling toward another ice age. I suppose this is another job like the weather forecasters where you can be wrong all the time and still keep your job. ;)

Global Warming is what I call SUMMER. It has recently come out that, the whole Global Warming issue has been based on Junk Science, w/a lot of made up data. Nothing new here for me as I always believed it was just cycles that the earth goes through. Like living here on the Gulf Coast. We go through a few years of having hurricanes and than none. This past season, we had just two tropical storms. The last major season of hurricanes was 2005 and since its been relatively quiet on the Florida Panhandle and further south.

Here we got a freeze warning for tonight, So I better get on the warmer gear on and go fill up my gas tank. Just a minute ago it was 51 degrees and it just dropped to 49. When I first moved here from CT, I wore nothing but cutoffs and tee shirts year round for 5 years. Than my blood thinned out and it was back to warmer clothing. So if you want some warmer ryding weather with none of that cold white stuff, head for south FL.

Many Snowbirds from Canada and points further north and northeast spend the winter months here and I almost got creamed by an older couple from Quebec last week, when they pulled out in front of me. Of course I had a few choice words for them but, not from being from around here where the locals are always aware of bikers, I let it go.

I hope your new DPS gets in soon, 3 weeks is a longtime but when you take into consideration of all the units BRP is replacing, I can see where there would be a shortage. I was pretty lucky in getting the right part in 6 days, where many other's got the bad units and had to wait longer. I feel for all of you and know that in many parts of the country and Canada your ryding time is limited.

:agree: 44 degrees in Vegas today. Thats double dog freezing by our standards.Took a ride and it almost killed me.
My DPS took 6 weeks, but it has been better than ever so far. Thats a pretty good dealer if they offered to help with a rental car.

It's called temperature fluctuation...been happening for a long time. We're just better at recording it, more interested in worrying about it, and more people are making money off pushing it than ever before.

It's been warmer and the Polar Bears didn't die, and it's been colder and (insert whatever here) lived through that too. But as long as there is money to be made we'll be hearing about "Climate Change", you can be sure of that.

Really sorry to hear about your steering issue. It does sound like some parts were not being manufactured to specs and BRP may have had to swap horses mid stream.

Hope everyone gets up and running soon.

Well it's not the dealers faults. So everyone's steering has pretty much all gone at once and now brp can't keep up - so they had a bad batch, or a batch that doesn't agree w/ their very own updates. So now new dps's get made and people wait in line for them to ship.

I just don't have much to say about how BRP does stuff anymore.

Well, after having my SPYDER dismantled in my dealer's shop for 4 1/2 weeks, I have my girl back in MY garage.
There have been some definite ISSUES in the parts department in Canada. My service manager had a new DPS ordered from Can-Am the same day I was trailered in. That was on Nov. 3. It took nearly 2 weeks for it to arrive. It was installed the same day, and did not function AT ALL. When my service manager called again, she was told that the parts in that shipment should never have left the warehouse. It was known to be defective. (I'm sure there's some logic to that somewhere, but not in our heads.)
They said they would rush a replacement out. It arrived 2 weeks later, was installed and tested, and I picked her up Tuesday night.
I have only put 10 miles on my SPYDER since due to bad weather, and none of them have been at highway speeds.
On the GOOD side of Can-Am/BRP, I received a message from Carlo the day after I got my baby back. He wanted some feedback. I am delaying that return call until I have had a chance to REALLY ride. We are experiencing a wintry mix today with temps ranging from 41 to 27.:(
Not quite the way I want to test ride and critique performance.
Patience is about all I can recommend because it seems "RUSH" in Canadian has a different definition than we have in America.

Get your steering fixed no matter how long it takes. The alternative is a steering system that will scare a few pounds out of you if it doesn't hurt you.

I am six weeks maybe seven getting an oil leak fixed and I am about to move on to something new if I don't get my bike back soon.

How are BRP go Karts?

yes we are heading for another iceage.
all this global warming may slow down it's coming few hundred years...
but another 15000 years we should be there.

:agree: Yep! people are getting rich and ole al g. needs all the bucks he can get to keep that refurbished Non Green house in TN heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. Not to mention that new non green houseboat, with the jetski on the back. Like that old saying "Do as I say, Not as I Do."

I thought I read on the boards here, that BRP went to a different company for the DPS units? :dontknow:
