Got an Ultimate that my wife and I could sit on?

Howdy gang,

I'm brand new to 3 wheeling and have yet to get my Spyder but I did do the price shopping yesterday. I would say that I am within 2 weeks of purchasing.

On the test ride a couple of weeks ago, I noticed the stock seat on the RT-S that I was on developed hot spots within about 15 minutes of riding. I plan on getting an RT Limited and have read a lot on here about replacement seats. Most people have really good things to say about the Ultimate seats.

I am about 20 minutes north of Houston and wondered if there was anyone out there in our area that would let me and my wife sit on their Ultimate seat?

We have some property about 260 miles away and I think the stock seat on the Limited, if it is the same as the one on the S, is going to kill my butt on those trips so I am hunting solutions before I even buy the trike.

Hi, Bill,

I'm a couple thousand miles north of you so testing mine out isn't going to work but I had the same problem with my stock seat on my 2014 RT-Ltd.

I bought a Ultimate seat and the difference was noticeable right from the 1st ride.

I give it the big :2thumbs: !
They also give you a 14 day trial to give it a go for yourself.

Welcome aboard

You might want to start off with a lower cost option like an Air Hawk cushion on top of your stock Spyder seat. Will give you more time to look for the perfect seat solution for both of you. I have an after market seat on my Spyder and the Air Hawk does wonders as far as comfort.

Forgot to mention this link as another idea for you:

My younger brother is about 2 blocks south of the Woodlands -- rides a 2012 RT-Limited - Bronze color. Might have seen it on the road. He still has the stock seat, but is considering options.

This 2014 RTS is my fourth spyderand bought the Ultimate seat after sitting on an 2013 RT last year at Spyderfest. This seat was one of my first upgrades and now have over 7000 miles on it and absolutely the best seat I have had on any of my previous spyders. I had 4 other aftermarket seats...no comparison to the comfort with this Ultimate Seat and backrest.

Hi Bill! :welcome:
Now; I'm ALL about the farkles... :D
(In SPITE of my self-imposed exile... :opps:)
But Don has a very good point; get the bike... see what you actually think of the OEM; once you've had a chance to break it (and your butt) in...
And perhaps even try a lesser-expensive option first.
Now that I said this; I WILL mention that an Ultimate is on my radar again!
(I spoke with Des and Dave up at Americade earlier this Month.. :2thumbs:)

Thanks a lot for all of the advice. I see that Ultitmate offers a normal size seat that puts you in the same position as the stock seat and a Tallboy that sets you 1 1/2" back. My riding jeans inseam is 36" so the Tallboy really has my interest. My wife is a bit on the heavy set side (she would agree with me on this so no razzing me on this point) and I would be concerned about how much the Tallboy would cut into her seating space. Anybody got any comments on that?

Bill

I am 6'4" and love the tallboy version and I have the backrest. My 8 year son rides with me and he is small. If someone larger was to ride with me I would just remove the backrest. I am guessing this would be the same solution for you.

BTW Ultimate seats has a 14 day return policy with their seats.

Hi Bill,

Your wife will lose a net of 3/4" with the TallBoy Seat. We sculpt the passenger backrest so it's one inch higher and allows the passenger to sit 3/4" further back than the OEM pad. As it was noted above, for some people, the driver backrest needs to be removed (about a 3 second procedure) when riding 2-up with the TallBoy Seat. That being said, with your inseam - the TallBoy seat will make a night and day difference.

Best,

Dave

and Ultimate Seats gives you a 14 day period to try out their seat. once you get it I can almost bet you won't go back to a stock seat.

I'd also consider adding some of the Revco armrest and you can get it to match your seat from Ultimate Seats. my wife loves those arm rest!

I'm 6'3" with a 36"/38" inseam. We have a Tallboy Ultimate seat and LOVE it! My wife is a little on the heavy side also and is very comfortable on the seat. I don't use the driver backrest with 2 up. She's the best backrest there is! ;)

Dave - I am assuming that when you talk about sculpting the passenger backrest, this would be the additional passenger backrest ordered from your company to go along with the seat, right?

I have a tallboy on my 2014 RT ltd and I really like it. It has a backrest and my wife does complain a little about losing space but I want that extra 1 1/2" backwards movement for me. I'm 6' tall and it works well. The stock seat moved me forward to much. I have dealt with Des in Florida (at Ultimate) for a few years now and always go with Ultimate seats on all my bikes.
I have never removed the backrest when the wife gets on but I have to try that next time.
I also put Corbin armrests (with cup holder) on for her and that brought the complaining down pretty much.

Hi Bill,
I'm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I just posted an ad in the "for sale by owner" section. I have a 2013 Spyder RT Semi automatic with all of the upgrades, including vented windshield, adjustable handlebars, heated handgrips, heated seats, stereo & ipod, etc. Spyder is in excellent condition with only about 1000 miles. I have to sale it so that we can buy our dream vacation home in Colorado. I will definitely buy another Spyder in the future. Please check it out before you buy a brand new model. Thanks

TheSun - I appreciate your idea greatly but I am set on a 2014 with the 3 jug engine instead of the v-twin. Another thing is that I am using my current bike, an '07 Goldwing, as a trade in to offset the costs on the new Spyder so that is another influential factor. BTW - I was born in Kinder and raised in Lake Charles, the other side of the boot from you.
