Im getting some custom paint work done to my golf cart. I want to do something to honor our military. I haven't served myself, dad did in WWII, and don't know what the etiquette is in this situation. The last thing I want to do is disrespect our heroes, or give the impression that I served.

The eagle is going on the front of the cart, and im trying to figure out what to put on the sides.

So whats everyones opinions?

pics of ships, planes, historical scenes, branch logos, etc. use those, find a good airbrush artist and fit a few of those on the thing you're painting. I've seen many bikes do this exact thing.

do it tastefully and find someone with some skill (so it doesn't look like crap), and we'll be happy.

I have a patch on my vest of pic. It is called "War Paint" and is usually pretty easy to find, most vendors carry it. The bottom part of the patch normally includes the quote, "These colors don't run"

US Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, United States Flag Code, Section 176, Respect for Flag, Para (g) [http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html] states the following:

The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

Even though I've seen it done a lot I wonder if art work like the eagle you're proposing to use might not fall within the intent of this paragraph. I'm not saying you should or should not use the eagle art but did at least want you to be aware of the Code paragraph. Yes, the code is written in terms of the real flag, but does that mean it's requirements do not apply to printed and painted versions? I'm inclined to think it does, particularly since paragraphs (i) and (j) do specifically refer to printed and embroidered likenesses.

I have seen a read that code a few times. I do think the eagle and flag is showing the patriotism for our country very tastefully. I have shown that pic to many vets and asked if they liked or thought it broke the code. Everyone liked it so far.
