• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Good tools for use on Spyder

What brand tools are used for the Spyders? I bought a set of torques from HD and are either too small or too big for any of the bolts. Was trying to reposition my foot rest. Stop at the local auto parts store and bought a set there and they are just as bad. I would prefer not strip any of the bolts.
Any advice suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

HD is SAE. Spyder is metric. It's not the brand that matters - it's the measurement standard being used. Difference between a Chevy and a Toyota or BMW.

Also, I think you mean torx, not torques. Big difference there, too.

Six point socket sets in 3/8" and 1 /2" drives, combination wrenches, long and short Allen sockets, nut drivers, torx sockets, good needle nose pliers and a bright LED flashlight. That's all metric except for the pliers. A 36 mm socket and a large open end adjustable wrench (crescent wrench) that will open to 36 mm (for removing the rear wheel).

One VERY IMPORTANT tool is a torque wrench. A 1/2" drive that will go to about 150 ft lbs and a 1/4" or 3 /8" drive that measures in in. lbs. Use them and always store them at their minimum setting. Put them in the case that they came in and don't drop them or use them for a hammer! Failure to use a torque wrench usually results in stripped threads or broken bolts. Also, most torque wrenches are for tightening only! There are a few that will work in both directions that can be used for reverse threads but they are not common. I prefer a "clicker" to a digital one. And avoid the old beam type.......they can be very difficult to read when using them in an awkward position.

It all depends on how much work you want to do. I do it to save money and learn more about my Spyder. It's also rewarding, too. If you have good mechanical abilities, you should have no problem.

Measure...

The brand is not the problem. You do need tools in metric (mm) though you will also find SAE (inches) with accessories add ons or mods...
