Hi guys, First I would like to say I love Spyderlovers.com. I have gotten so much helpful information, thank you. I have a 2009 GS that I do like a lot. The problem is I am not as comfortable on as I would like to be. I am thinking about getting a used RT which I believe will be more comfortable. My question is, is there a certain year or years I should stay away due to mechanical issues? I have seen from the forums here that the 2009 GS is a very reliable machine, is has only 3000miles on it and in like new condition. Should I put money into that to make it more comfortable (floorboards, handlebar risers ). Thank you for your input.

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I looked at both the RS and RT at the same time, and I concluded that it was better to buy an RT, rather than buy and RS and convert it to an RT by adding the accessory bags, handlebar risers etc.
You might consider an ST. That might suit your needs better, in terms of comfort and affordability.

A ST is basically an GS/RS with all the mod's people used to make to make them more comfortable.
So I'd suggest to try and get a test ride of an ST at a dealers.
If it still isn't comfortable enough then you probably do need to start looking at an RT.
If it is comfortable for you then you've got two choices:

Plenty of options for these changes with the various sponsors of this site (and lots of reviews/comments on the products on this site as well)

The difference between RS and RT is crotch rocket vs. Goldwing or Cadillac.
I had 2008 and 2009 and had all the gee gaws to make them "look" like the future RT (2010). I ended up buying a premier edition.
The gee gaws did not make the ride any better. They still rode and acted like crotch rockets.
I would say to spend the money on an RT and let the RS go. The only year that has previously been not recommended is the 2013. Most agree, that after the heat remediation measures, the 2013 is a pretty good machine.
You now have a second dilemma with the RT. Should you get a pre-2014 (two cylinder), or a 2014 or higher (three cylinder). I have both flavors and prefer the three cylinder hands down.
Pictured below are the 08 (silver) and 09 in all their glory. As mentioned, the RT was liked much better. We currently have a 2011 and a 2014.

56 years old? I was 56 when Itook my first bagpipe lesson. I'm 70 and ride an RSS. 56 is an age of new beginnings!

And i have an 09 GS/RS and love it i'm not a tourer but do love to ride, I got my 09 with 2300 miles on it, on 8/14 with the comfort seat, 1 inch riser and saddle bags and fog lights and it now has weboards, and 16710 miles on it. I ride it almost all year round. As said it is an ST now but with more HP, crotch rocket maybe but still an awesome machine. If you are into the long cruise RT 3 cylinder definitely the way to go, my wife some times ride and i put on the back rest for her, otherwise it is just me .Be true to you and how you ride and what you want out of the machine. Look around there are a lot of beautiful machines out there of all types. Best of luck
