Goggles

Hello all,

I hope that today has brought or will bring you unexpected joy and peace...

I am looking into my second helmet. First one still works fine and has never hit the ground. I'm just considering one that I have liked the look and fit of for a while which is rare for a guy with a head of my size(I've sent some really nice looking helmets back because they just didn't fit my big head right). Anywhoooooo...My 1st(currently only helmet) is a 3/4 helmet that I bought with my spyder. I have listened to the valid points on why I should upgrade to a full face and actually bought one but it didn't fit right so now I am back to what I want. I figure if I am not going full face I may as well go for what feels the best. I will be getting the Bell Rogue, which is basically a combination between a 3/4 and half helmet. I will need goggles because my eyes water when the wind gets in them. The only catch is I don't wear glasses nor wear sunglasses so as soon as I tried goggles on it felt weird and just wrong. Do any of you have any suggestions for comfortable goggles with a pretty good periphial view. Also it would help if you indicated whether you consider yourself to have a big noggin...like me :joke:

oh one other note, I am aware of the safety aspects of full face versus 3/4, half, or no helmet. I am only asking about goggles in this post. Thanks!

Goggles have come a long way in the past few years. I have two pair that fit over the glasses.

IMO: the best place to get a pair is go to a HD shop or a similar shop that sells biker vests, chaps, jackets, etc. Bring your helmet along so you can test fit and you should be good to go.

The goggles will take a little time to get used to--but should not be an issue for you. They will surely protect you from flying objects--which are out there just waiting...

Having ridden dirt bikes for years and most of that with what is now called a 3/4 helmet, I would recommend a pair of dirt goggles. My personal choice is Scott goggles but there are others. They fit tightly so they keep out the wind along with the dirt and debris but they are also vented so that they breathe to help keep them from fogging up and to keep you from sweating too much. You can get different lenses in different colors and they are very versatile. I have worn them on the road and they work just fine. In fact, the first Spyder I test rode I was wearing my 3/4 dirt helmet and Scott goggles. I now wear a Shoei modular helmet and swear by it but if you want to wear a 3/4 helmet with goggles, I'd sure recommend Scott dirt goggles.

One more thing. If you're going to wear goggles with a 3/4 helmet it actually helps to have a big head. My head is pretty small so there's not a lot of room for goggles between my nose and the brow of the helmet. The goggles can wind up being pushed down onto your nose making it hard to breathe through your nose. You won't have that problem.

Curious..!!

and not to get away from the googles...my choice would be the scotts...have you tried a modular or the new 3/4 with the drop down shields.? Cycle gear has a good selection if googles are the way...

Harley Dealerships might have more than the normal amount of choices for you to try...
...As would a shop that has a active "dirtbiking" customer base...

Question: Aren't there "sunglasses" out there, that have been approved for use in this application? :dontknow:

On my Yellowstone trip I wore my Klim snowmobile goggles and they worked great!!!! They are tinted and polarized and fairly expensive. 509 makes nice goggles too and I see they just came out with a dirt bike model

I haven't tried a modular helmet but that has been one of consideration, okay now you have me off of the goggle topic at hand, lol, but here I go: I am kind of in the mindset to go completely full face for max protection or that anything less than that I might as well stick to my 3/4 style. As for the 3/4 with the drop down shield I will have to look into that, but it has to cover most of my face because for whatever reason I get hit by every bug in Texas.

Bob,

I am pretty sure there are sun glass type goggles as I have personally seen some that seem like sunglasses. My issue is that glasses of all kinds feel strange to me since I never wear them and I am concerned that it could be a distraction to me on the road and we Spyder riders don't need more distractions. I am hoping that as others have mentioned it won't take me long to get used to the goggles/sunglasses.
